That's not true. It's much more accurate to say "it wouldn't be
cost effective to make work even if someone gave you the engine and
the van for free along with a fully equipped garage, hoist, and tooling,
and 3 months of vacation time for you to just hack away on it"

People have gotten stupider combinations to work, with enough
money and effort.
