Default PIC: Fiat Might Ditch the Miata-based Alfa Romeo

One or the other, this car should definitely get out the door. It is
sporty and like the article says, Alfa is better than no Alfa. I
think that the best partnership will be established for the production
of the Spyder.

Rumors are mounting that Fiat may pull the plug on its Mazda
partnership, which was designed to produce the Alfa Romeo Spyder
roadster. So far, the rumors are still unconfirmed, but while Alfa is
set to roll out the new 4C Spyder this week in Geneva, it’s getting
easy to see why the project may be in doubt.

Sources seem to indicate that Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has decided
to cancel the program in order to keep Alfa Romeo production within
Italy. The original deal called for Mazda to manufacture the vehicles,
but the guys over at Autoblog suggested Marchionne might shift the
focus to another held Italian marque, such as the Fiat or Abarth
brand.

This move sounds likely, as we reported just a few days ago that the
Spyder may receive an Abarth power plant. In the meantime, let’s just
be happy that we’re getting the 4C. A little Alfa is better than no
Alfa.
