This race is my favourite of the meeting; cars which I used to see as a
kid on the local streets now racing closely on a great circuit and
driven by stars of the past whose exploits I used to read about avidly
in the motoring magazines. The static displays are fascinating, I agree,
and this Hampshire must be incredibly rare now; very few would have been
sold new, and I wouldn't be surprised if this was the only survivor.

What I can't capture in the pictures, though, is the incredible
atmosphere at this event; something like 130,000 people attended over
the three days, the majority of who, including your intrepid
photographer and his family, were dressed in period costume. There are
acres of rare and priceless cars in the paddocks which you can stand
next to and pore over, to the obvious delight of the enthusiastic
participants and their crews, all of whom are willing to have a chat
with you, while dotted around the pedestrian areas are some of the cars
I've pictured, just parked, like the Aston DB5 or that delightful BNC,
or indeed the Hampshire, as they would have been 50 or so years ago.

Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying these, Max. I had three great days
taking them.
