Yes, it was the early GPL movies which originally inspired me to make some flight
sim movies. There was some real talent at work back then. These days it's a little
easier to put a movie together (faster hardware to drive Fraps etc, and more
powerful, affordable editors) so it can be a lot harder to find the decent movies
among the rest on YouTube etc.

The editing is the easy part (if very time-consuming) because "all" you're doing is
assembling the ingredients you've already brought to your virtual kitchen. The
inspiration for me usually comes from finding a piece of music which suggests an
idea and shape for a movie, then being motivated to sit down inside a sim and try
to get some really great clips recorded.

If I have any talent though it is for being anal retentive enough to
re-re-re-re-record scenes until I get a version I like. :-) What I lack, so far, is
the ability to go the extra mile (actually it's more like five!) and record
duplicates of *every* scene with the camera positioned for optimal sound recording.

Weird zooms and angles suffer from poor or inaccurate sound quality, and there are
only so many superficial cover-ups you can get away with. I try my best though. :->
