replacing Miata top or window

In general, a 91's top should be old enough to be on it's last legs. If this
is the case, replacing the whole top makes sense.
Don't forget to replace the rain rails if this is what you end up...

lower timing gear removal

Locking the flywheel may be easy, or it may not. It just depends on what
you need to do to get to it. On some cars, usually automatics, the flywheel
(if it can even be called that) is easily...

motor rebuild: how to proceed

1.8L engines don't have a lost ot spare when it comes to cylinder wall
thickness.
I assume that the last rebuild involved some amount of overbore as a start.
I don't know how much total overbore a...

lower timing gear removal

A good Impact tool (Pneumatic) makes short work of removing the nut.
(In gear, brakes locked)

Once, I had a real problem with a Chevy S10/LUV
It was solved (no impact tools) with an 8 foot pipe,...

Power Steering ('91)

"I know I can't work the clutch on a Mustang "

The last Mustang I drove a few years back had a "ring" clutch cylinder. It
had almost no feel and very little effort was required, less than my 99...

Power Steering ('91)

It seems that some cars do very well without power steering, and others are
a bear without it.

We once had an early 60's Chevy Nova that didn't need power steering. As I
understand it, the...

Power Steering ('91)

I'd replace the pump first. The symptoms match, and the pump is considerably
less expensive to replace, compared to the P/S rack and labor.

Replace Tail Light on 2000 Miata?

All things are relative. <G>
If you are using a used light assembly as a replacement, you may need to add
some sort of sealant to the old rubber gasket.
(They are not difficult to replace.) If any...

2008 Miata - slipping out of 4th gear?

The only way I know to get a big change is to change the rear axle ratio.
Ring and pinion ratios are available to about 3.6:1 instead of 4.1:1 (~)
The stock NA & NBs may not do well with the 3.6...

2008 Miata - slipping out of 4th gear?

Well, each to their own--
One thing I noticed as a big improvement was the way the cruise control
works in the mountains. Helps reduce downshifting to go up grades. (At
least I told my insurance...

The dreaded latch issue seems to be back.

Yes, they should be warranty items, with the possible exception of the rear
speakers. It may turn out that the salesman lied.
The latches also rely on an...

2008 Miata - slipping out of 4th gear?

If you think it moves now, wait until you have the chance to drive a
supercharged or turbocharged Miata.
My 99 (on a good day) will develop around 220 HP at the rear wheels. Stock
was about...

Quick answer needed if poss

It's sort of "flip a coin" to me. There is a possibility that there was
something that was not quite right, and the dealer did not get it fixed, so
the previous owner sold or traded the car.

I...

Working under the dash is a pain-- I found that removing the drivers seat,
and padding the floor to smooth out the projections helps a lot.

2008 Miata - slipping out of 4th gear?

Defective Transmission. At 600 miles, the dealer should replace the
transmission (or the whole car)
You should actually shift at a little higher RPM than 3000 or so. That's
about when the engine...

Clutch + flywheel

The real problem is that the Miata engine does not have much torque at low
RPM. Thus, the heavier flywheel is better for non racing applications. Yes
a lighter flywheel will allow the engine to...

The dreaded oil/tire thread!

I've had good luck with Toyo tires and prices.

traction.
Bridgestone Good tires for wear, and handling when new, but get...

Oil change myth?

The van served well. RIP!
It's demise was a few months AFTER I sold it.
It was not replaced with another van, simply because our kids had grown up,
and we needed a regular car and pickup truck.
With...

I really doubt it! <G>
The lifter noise probably means that you waited a bit too long, or you have
a bit of varnish build up that might be removed.
Is it just one lifter, as it was on our old and...

Oil change myth?

Don't know. My wife's Impala has an oil minder built in. I end up changing
oil more frequently than it calls for, based upon several long standing
rules of mine.
1. The Mfr's oil change interval...
