2014 Corvette

I may actually be interested in buying a new Corvette. A smaller, higher revving, variable overhead cam design with direct fuel injection may be in order for 2014. The present C6 has a neanderthal pushrod V-8 and a horrible interior. Also the looks are gaudy. I hope the 2014 brings the average age of the Corvette driver down to age 70. I am considerably less than that age and do not want to be seen driving 'an old man's car'. Also add to the fact that GM talked the government into ****ing away perfectly good cash to cover for GM's management stupidity and it is really a reach for me to want to buy any GM vehicle these days. I think I will keep driving my 64 convertible. Back then, GM wasn't the joke of a car company that it is now. Vito |

Even the obnoxious car presented as the next generation Corvette was not built by GM. The car will get a restyled rear end and a touch up on the front, some lighter material in some parts, and you will be told how nice the interior is but only color changes will be made. As far as VVT my guess would be it will still be a Neanderthal push rod engine. Sure you will buy a 2014 Corvette design being as youthful as you seem to think a Corvette buyer needs to be. They bring out that abortion and it will have a youthful price tag able to hit 70K with very few options. Just the car for the fast food workers budget. My guess would be that it will be a modified body and maybe slight frame change for the C6 with an engine that could be troublesome at best and under powered as a base unit. Then add a good power plant and the price will be astronomical, like the joke they called the ZR1 back in the '90s. At one time I looked forward to driving the next generation Corvettes but not what you describe nor the one being presented by the car rags. Let me know when you get off your ass and go drive that "gaudy" C6 to redline in fifth gear, or even 4th for that matter, ahh, forget that you couldn't handle 3rd, let alone 4th or 5th. You don't have the balls for that so why would you need a higher revving engine in a lighter car? I guess there are those that just have to own something even if they can't drive them. Drove the C6 to a festival in mid state this weekend in a very hard rain coming home, still got 29 MPG and did hit triple figures on the HUD once. Next day drove the '64 to a nearby rib off and was able to get 10 MPG and saw 60 MPH once as any of you old drivers can. Stopped at a friends house that was near by and there sat his '65 fuel injected coupe under its cover. Didn't even bother to take it one mile to the car show but then he's an ancient 62 years old. This week will be the '72's turn as it has cooled enough to drive a black car without air-conditioning. If you don't drive them why have them? You must wear your shoes backward to think that GM was a car company back when they built the '64 you have gathering dust in the corner of your garage. Although there are those that think the design was great it was one of the worst assembled cars on the market. Only it's short lived years of production has kept it from being another GM ghost of the past. GM has been ****ing away our money for years but ran it through the government filter this time to screw people out of more product value. Save the wave, that may be all we have left as Corvette owners, -- Dad 05 C6 Silver/Red 6spd Z51 72 Shark Black/Black/4spd 64 Red/red/white top/4spd |

GM loves customers like that. That $70k car will be $20k in a few years with typical GM depreciation, then the 'you want fries with that' younger crowd could affort it. But then they want the Mustang because it is just as fast, looks good, is cheaper, and can seat 4 buddies. I would drive the 64 more but the stupid Holley dries out too quickly then runs lousy. I have to fire the engine to fill the carb and wait 1 week for the seals to swell enough to have the engine run properly. Tempted to put a Q-Jet in but car would lose its originality. Gets worth more every day just sitting there. Try that with other vehicles. especially any made by GM. Newer Vettes do absolutely nothing for me. Interior sucks. I do not care how much HP that engine produces, there is nothing 'elegant' about it. Torque peak at 4600 rpm. Sounds more like the torque peak of my Craftman lawnmower. Not that of a performance car. I am not in the fancy car business much anymore. I am trying to get my ducks in a row so I can retire. I hate my job and would rather not work and want to spend my time traveling. I am still in my mid 50's so I have to save enough so that I can survive a few years without any Social Security, Medicare, and 401k. I cannot tap the 401k until 59 1/2. Social Sec is 60 1/2 and medicare is 65, so I have a few years to go before I can leach onto these government programs. Anyway, take care, Dad. Was wondering who would reply to my rant. |

I'm not entirely sure what age he'd have to reach to break even on those govenment programs he says he's going to leech (note sp.) onto. Maybe he's not smart enough to realize that at least for some time he's only recouping what he's already put into those programs. Gullible owners. > Even that little nothing change had you thinking that you might try a C7, how shallow. Then again that does point out how you are aware of gullible buyers, you are one. Your need to buy a used car with high resale value is rather odd, why pay more for less? If you drive it till the wheels fall off you can't sell it so why look at high resale value only when you're buying? Actually GM has had VVT in production for well over 5 years now. No need for you to be informed, you are able to hate GM without knowing anything. Plus that low tech you seem to dislike has more power with less fuel than the complex hi tech answer to a question that wasn't ask. Lets see, cam shaft, that's what a friend of mine makes in Michigan, about 27,000 a week and as far as an aluminum engine goes a large number of my family has worked in a near by GM foundry that casts a large percentage of "L" series aluminum engines, others were made there as far back as 1959. By the way even the oil pan is cast aluminum along with most mounting brackets to help it remain one of the quietest running engines on the market today. You can buy the hand me downs but I'll drive what I prefer when I decide to and enjoy them then, not when they can qualify as a clown car and/or a fart factory. You may want to forget about hating GM and apply that energy towards being happy, life is so much easier when you're not burning it up with hate and discontent. A cheery outlook on life may even get you to a job that pays enough to meet your retirement goals sooner. Could even get you moved up from the deep fat fryer to the order counter. ;-)) This lemming needs to go out and polish up the black one so I can go to the cruse in tomorrow night, I'll let you know how many clown cars are there that some pimply faced loser thinks is hot. |

It is reduced by about 25% at that age. If you are tapping your 401K at 59 1/2, you will probably run out of money at some point. If you do take money out, you should only take 4% per year. Also, don't forget that it is taxed as income. I'm hoping to hold out until I must take distributions at 70 1/2. I love my '93 40th Anniversary Vette. It still drives like new, with just over 70K miles, and brand new Goodyear tires. But, I really like the C6 also. -- Jim |
