You can hear the Dynaflow wining!

Boy, does that bring back the memories. There you'd be at a stop light and
you push the gas to the floor and...well....you oozed across the
intersection. It was very much like the early CVT transmissions of a few
years ago. The sound was very characteristic. I think things were a little
better by 53 because they had started to deal with that problem by then but
it sure was no Hydramatic!

There was an intersection (with a stoplight, which was rare) outside the
grade school I attended in Antioch, Illinois. I would say which car was
a Buick by the sound of the Dynaflow. It was such a snap but mystified
many teachers.

Dave, do you still live in Antioch? I live 3 miles north in Trevor. John

Now I live in Downers Grove, SW suburb of Chicago. The grade school was
actually in Lake Villa and is known as Pleviak School, I believe. The
intersection was IL 21/83 (at that time) and IL 132. We moved to
Antioch when I entered high school. I've heard of Trevor and knew it
was up there somewhere close. Where is it, exactly?

If you take Hwy 83 north to Hwy C and then go West on Hwy C for about 1.25
miles you'll hit Trevor Wi. Don't blink as you pass through, cause you'll
miss most of Trevor :-) I actually live in a very small subdivision of
Center Lake Woods (5 streets), which is between Center and Camp Lakes.

I see. When in high school a friend and I would ride our bikes up to
Rock Lake to visit an elderly ham radio operator. Never got as far
north as Center or Camp Lakes. We get up that occasionally, and I'll
have to drive through Trevor.

Be prepared for a big change. In the last coupla years they put up about 500
new homes in Antioch. They also made big changes at Rock Lake. Give a holler
and I'll make sure I've got some cold ones in the fridge :-). John

The changes are remarkable. I graduated from ATHS in 1960 and worked at
the Jewel when it was on Lake Street - 428 (?) Lake Street - but it's
been out at 59 and 173 for decades now. I entered Pleviak School in
fourth grade, when it was Lake Villa Grade School. The "new" wing
opened up after I'd been there a month or so. Looking at Google Earth -
the old section is gone and replaced with another new wing.
