Parking Brake Cable and MM LCA Installation
While installing MM LCAs on my 94 Cobra, the instructions said to
disengage the parking brake cable from the brake caliper (in order to reverse the ABS cable on the parking brake cable bracket). Anyway, after finishing the installation, I could not pull the parking brake cable far enough back to reattach it to the brake caliper; I can't get it within an inch of reaching. And the rear brake cable equalizer is now askew, because it has taken up the slack made available when I disengaged the cable on one side. I looked up the parking brake cable replacement procedure in Haynes, and it looks like I'm going to have to remove the center console, remove the parking brake lever assembly, wind up the tensioning coil and temporarily block it from unwinding (with a gage pin stuck through it), reinstall the assembly, reattach the brake cables, and then release the tensioner. I can't believe Maximum Motorsports would give out instructions that would allow this to happen, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something. Anyone have any ideas? I'm going to go ahead and replace the other LCA and leave the parking brake inoperative for the time being. If no one can suggest an alternative, I'll have to do the procedure in the paragraph above; doable, but a real PIA. Thanks. Duane PS: I called MM's tech support, and they were no help. Evidently this doesn't normally happen, which is why I'm hoping someone can tell me what I'm missing. |
Parking Brake Cable and MM LCA Installation
You realy shouldn't have had a problem with this, we have done quite a
few brake swaps and LCA's and have never had a problem. Usually you can grab the barrel on the end with a pair of pliers and pull the cable outward more than enough to get into the slot on caliper parking brake bracket. Tim (Musttanguy) PonyPerformance.com |
