Buying a bug or van in the USA
We've just moved to Kentucky, USA, and would like to buy a Bug or Van
(Type 1 or 2). Where is the best place to get a rust-free car? Is it possible to got to Mexico, where they were made until recently, to buy one and then drive it back here? Cheers, Marsh. |

No need for any damn Euro/Usa conversions either, just bring it home and tag it. I think a good deal of this is federal, not dependent on state. If you were thinking of bringing in something that's younger than 25 years, your best bet is to find a local company that imports cars and performs the necessary EPA and DOT tests and conversions, and can process all the paperwork. It takes a well equipped lab...... can't do it yourself. Fortunately, there are plenty of companies that offer this service. I talked with AAA SUNSHINE CAR IMPORT in Florida. Jan |

As long as it's 25 years old it's basically easy. I'm in the process of
bringing in a Citroen Dyane from England right now. Sure thing, the key thing is once it goes through customs and you have the
EPA and DOT clearance forms it's not a problem. You really are better off using a broker, I am using Noel Slade at www.citroenimportservices.com to arrange everything. I saw the restauration (fitting new frame) of your 2cv on his site. And i noticed the 2cv was running German (?) plates, am i correct? Love the car, I think a 2cv is one of the three icons; Bug, Mini and 2CV. There might be many more but not European. :) Roger |
