No one excited for Codemasters F1 sim?

Saw an alpha video yesterday and it's looking quite good. The developers
said they are going for sim level but with aids for those that don't
like sim and prefer more arcade. They did say it won't be full on sim
though because they want it to be fun too and not wiping out in every
corner. As usual with Codemasters racing games the graphics are looking
spectacular.

Codemasters aren't interesting in producing a realistic F1 simulator.
They want to sell their "fun" games to as big an audience as they
possibly can which means it has to be arcade like in feel and physics.
They will want it to look like it's a simulator so people who don't
know any difference will think they can really drive a real F1 car
when they play the game. This will increase the sales and they'll get
more money ... which happens to be the bottom line.

Regards,
Mike.

We will see, the developers don't seem to think it is an arcade game. Go
look up the alpha video on youtube.

I looked up the video but all it says is the game will be difficult.
Just because it's a difficult game it doesn't necessarily mean it will
be realistic. The TOCA racing series Codemasters produced is a good
case in point. You can play with certain settings that make the game
more difficult but as the physics aren't there to start with it still
isn't realistic. I hope I'm wrong and Codemasters make a realistic F1
game but I won't be betting on it.

Mike.

The developers of the F1 sim are Grid and Dirt/Dirt2. I don't think they
did Toca series too, or did they?. Dirt2 has the physics, it just
doesn't have a realistic rally sim packaged with it.

Yes, they did the 3 Toca games and 2 Indycar series games, although
the 2nd Indycar game (2005 series) was really just the completion of
the first one which looked incomplete and horrible.

Well, I like Dirt2 and NFS Shift so maybe I will like their F1 sim too.
Both Dirt2 and NFS Shift make me feel more like I am in a real car than
any racing sims that have come before them. I just wish they had a more
realistic career mode and race length and had more realistic dalmage
models. The F1 game I expect wil be more realistic in that way so I am
expecting an F1 sim that has both great graphics and more realism.
