2nd Hand 147's
 

Hello,

I'm looking to get a 147 and spending about 8k...Anything to watch for
especially ? It's been 20 years since I owned an Alfa...(Sud)...

Not bothered about the No. of doors, would prefer leather & alloys, not sure
about the engines, my wife had a 2.3 Saab 900S and wants something with some
power, is the 1.6 TS up to it ?

Well, I own a 147 1.6 TS (rosso alfa) with 105HP and it's a beauty. It has
now 23.000 km and I adore its sound form 3500 rpm till 6000rpm where gives
the most of its power. On open roads it's pleasure to run over the curves
with ease and amazement of Mercedes and Audi drivers that get overtaken on
the most incredible spots. A brilliant engine, I can only imagine what a 2.0
SS can do!!

It achieves with no problem 180 Km/h and can run smoothly on highways @ 130
Km/h with 8 litres per 100 km. I own a Lusso pack wich includes Momo
Leather, Bose Hi-Fi System, Sport 16'' light alloy wheels fitted on Good
Year Runflat 205/55 16', 6 airbags, fog lights, board computer, ESP, ABS,
radio comands on steering wheel, bi-zone climate, seats heating etc.etc.
A great car, paid it (new) 18.092 EUR with all expenses (here in Croatia).

I'm just loving it. Go for it.

Check the cambelt, front suspension and steering, ignition wires and sparks.
This is what can be worn and is rather expensive to replace.

Drive the car and see. In my opinion 1.6 is enough for some people in this
model, especially the one with variable valve timing (there were 2 versions
of 1.6, instead of 1.4 they released weaker 1.6 105HP).

The only real answer is to drive it. The 1.6 seems willing but even the
2.0 is not quite the hot hatch you might expect a small 150bhp hatch to
be. It is almost a bit too civilised in that respect. It is a very
stylish choice though IMHO especially with leather.

Echo. Plus - if you can, try more than one example.
If you can drive a 1.6 and a 2.0 back to back you then
can see if you are going to be satisfied.

Her indoors loved her 147 2.0 TS but the mad lady
felt the 1.6 just left her feeling she was missing out.

Having driven all 147's apart from the GTA, I'd choose the diesel -
nice performance and great ecconomy.

Get a 1.9JTD version...

It will give great power and will save on fuel economy.

i had the 156 1.9JTD and that was SOAS.

I had the 1.6 147 as a couresty car and felt it was underpowered compared to
the 156 JTD

All down to preference. I had a 147 JTD as a courtesy car and I couldn't
really fault the performance but I find the 2.0TS a more rewarding
drive. The 1.9JTD engine is very efficient but lacks some Alfa charm for
me - it could be one of any number of modern diesels. The 5 cylinder
2.4JTD has a lot more character.

I hear you..I've never liked the sound of any 4 cylinder diesel.
