What is viatology?

You may have heard the term 'viatology' used in this newsgroup: but what does it mean? Viatology is the scientific study of roads. It uses the scientific method (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_method) to research roadways and report factual information to others who scientifically study roads: viatologists.

Some examples of viatological research include, but aren't limited to: highway numbering standards, time-based photography, steepness of grade, or even the types of interchanges that efficiently move rush-hour traffic.

For more information on viatology, including its etymology thereof, please refer to http://wwtl.info/#viatology.html
