Wonders never cease.

I got a cheque for just over £1800 from a third party warranty company
today.

Means it cost me around 200 quid out of my own pocket, due to the
difference in the labour rate paid and the insured rate, plus the cost
of getting someone with smaller hands than me to change the sidelight
bulbs whilst they had it.

I'm very happy with that outcome, even if it did take a stroppy email
mentioning county courts to get the payment.

In view of the sums involved, would you recommend others buy a
secondhand Selespeed (without insurance covering the gearbox)? To me,
Selespeed always seemed to have too high a risk of (expensive)
failure.

Hmmmm. Very difficult one to call.

I had a very specific need - 30+mpg on petrol, no clutch, and an Alfa.

A V6 was too thirsty, even moreso when fitted with Q-Tronic.

Diesels didn't come with any kind of auto option.

Which left me with Selespeed.

When it works, Selespeed is very good. Addictive, even, with the
perfectly matched / blipped downshift.

When it breaks, well.... take it to a specialist and pay full whack,
it'll be expensive.

It's nearly half the price if you source a Selespeed Actuator from an
Italian parts discounter.

Or, you can go with the guaranteed used option, which would have been
600 quid.

The odds of it going wrong are actually in your favour, and even if it
does go wrong, 600 quid every few years to replace a wonky unit isn't a
huge cost if the car fits your (narrow) requirements.

I'm still glad I bought it, and would buy another given the same needs.

But they're not for everyone.

Long reply to a simple question, but I wanted to cover all bases.
