2003 accord maintenance required light stuck on.

My 2003 Accord has the "maintenance required" light on and it will not
reset. The car has 72,000 miles and in the past that light has come
on a few times when I forgot to reset it after an oil change. It has
always rest to off when I followed the procedure in the manual of
holding the trip odometer reset down and turning the ignition to on
until the light turns out. However this time it does not rest.
Rather when I do the procedure the light flashed off for a half second
then it is back on. Do you have any suggestions what the cause might
be or how I can turn this off. I keep track of oil changes (every
3,000 miles) by a log book so this light is redundant. This is not
the check engine light and I have checked the ODBII and there are no
codes in the computer.

Make sure the dash lights, headlights and parking lights are ALL off during
the entire procedure.

If you have DRL's, make sure those are off as well.

If the DRL's are factory, put the parking brake on before turning the
ignition on.

If the DRL's are aftermarket, pull its fuse, or read its manual.

I tried the reset with everything turned off and it did not work.
Does anyone have an other suggestion?

You are following these directions /PRECISELY/?

1) Turn off the engine.

2) Press and hold the Select/Reset knob in the instrument panel, then turn
the ignition switch ON (II).

3) Hold the knob for approximately ten seconds until the indicator resets.

Your original post suggests you are turning the ignition on /before/
pressing the ODO button, which is incorrect.
