gear change over

How long should it take a good mechanic to do a gear swap on an '04 GT?

How good is the Dallas Mustang Speedcal vs. the Abbott-ERA?

Just so you know, it is much more involved than just a swap, at least if you
want it done right. Checking and setting the proper adjustment of the gears
is not a job for the novice.

If you are considering having someone do a gear change for you, make damn
sure they know what they are doing.

Mine was in the shop for half a day, and I watched the whole thing.
Took several hours. I had him replace everything else while he was in there
too though.

Its being done by a mechanic friend of mine - one of the best in the state.
The issue is that we usually help each other with stuff - I work on his
computers and do some carpentry, he works on my cars. The thing is that I'm
running our of favor cards and want to compensate him for his labor but,
knowing him he'll say: "just forget it." So, if its like a four hour job, I
don't want to throw him a $20 and a six-pack and say thanks dude.

No comment on the speedo recal?

A simple gear change, with no other problems, should take about 2-3 hours.
That's assuming that nothing else is wrong, you have all the right tools and parts,
and everything goes right.
IRS takes considerably longer.
