97 Jetta GL dies right after starting, and while driving by
onyx
About 2 months ago, I started having problems with my car dying. Over
the last couple weeks, it has gotten a lot worse, and now today I
can’t even keep it going without it dying. Basically what is happening
is right after I start the car, it dies immediately after turning
over. I have to try...

Road Atlanta fun by
Jim Behning[_1_]
I got to do some laps at Road Atalanta last night. I have watched a
number of races but this was the first time I got to be on the track.
My best lap of nine was a 6:08.

Replacing my alternator brushes by
Fred Mann
I was told by the local battery place last year that the alternator on my
'83 Rabbit GTI was not putting out enough juice. I'd been driving it
semi-regularly since then (charging the battery with a charger), but I
finally decided to replace it. But then I remembered how much of a hassle it
was the...

Need a sanity check -1.8T sludge - time to give up? by
[email protected]
I know this topic has been beaten into the ground. I don't need to
know what the problem is, or what causes it, or how to prevent it. My
car already has it. I spent $1200 not even a year ago because oil
starvation had necessitated replacement of my main bearings. Despite
using only synthetic...

Thoughts on current-era VWs? by
Andrew Sullivan
Hi all,
After several years carless, I am facing the possibility of having to
buy a car again.
I had several A1 Sciroccos, though an 84 that lasted nearly 20 years
before giving up the ghost (my father finally drove it into the
ground). I liked them, because they were fun to drive,...

VW Golf III with loss of power especially at low RPM by
Klaus Kragelund
Hi
I have a VW Golf III 1.8 from 1995. My problem is that it suddenly
looses power with a very fast jerk and immedeately thereafter resumes
power.
The problem is worst at low RPM (2000) and it can be solved by giving
full pedal. The mechanic has replaced spark plugs, cables, rotor,
ignition coil...

02 Passat 1.8t water in engine during heavy rain by
[email protected]
Have any ideas for me? Recently during heavy rains my '02 Passat 1.8T
gets water in the crank case. When I start the car it produces a lot
of steam from the exhaust and will not run properly. This is the
second time in the last 3 months that this has happened. The first
time the dealer mechanics...

95 Jetta III weirdness by
Mike Stafford
Okay so I have been noticing something weird I don't know if anyone
else has had this issue or not. So it seems whenever my Jetta gets
right around 1/2 empty it will start acting up on me. It is
considerably noticeable when it is really hot outside. So what will
happen is it sometimes will jerk a...

96 Jetta oil leak at filter by
David
I have a 1996 VW Jetta GLS with the gasoline engine and automatic
transmission.
I recently changed the oil and oil filter. The filter I used was a
Fram. Shortly after I noticed that it started leaking oil around the
filter. So I replace the filter with another Fram and again it started
leaking...

2001 Passat 1.8T Maintenance Hierarchy/Priority by
[email protected]
I have a 2001 Passat 1.8T manual transmission with about 95K miles.
I do an oil change every 5K miles, did the plugs at 60K, put a new
battery in at 80K, and recently replaced the air and pollen filters.
I know the timing belt is recommended to be replaced at 105K.
What other things should I be...

If my timing belt breaks by
[email protected]
I have an 84 Rabbit with the 1.7 liter, carburetor engine.
I changed the timing belt at about 80,000 miles and I now have about
145,000.
I was just wondering... if it breaks, do I damage the valves?
Or is it a non-interference engine?
I suppose I should just get around to changing it, eh?

A2 drivers door handle by
[email protected]
The outside door handle of my A2 Jetta hardly activates the latch,
meaning I have to yank the door open. The interior latch works fine. I
recently replaced the exterior latch, and it worked somewhat better,
but it still is not right. Any suggestions?

A2 GTI fuelsystem woes -- Distributor, Cold Start Valve? by
Nathan
Hello folks,
I have an '85 GTI with an '87 16v engine that won't start. It sat for
a year or more and had the old gas pumped through the system, although
now I've drained it and replaced it with clean gas + fuel system
cleaner.
While the problem really could be anything, there are two...
