Valve Guide erosion by
Mr. K[_2_]
On two intake valve guides No.2 and 4 under the valve the guide is
rounded off like eroded. one valve got stuck open. that's why I pulled
the heads. The other guides are just perfect.
this is a type 2 engine circa 1971, dual port.
I wonder, anyone have an idea what went wrong here?

Cuban Combi,s by
John[_28_]
Watched a travel show on Cuba and there was a bay window Combi which
appeared to have a black radiator grille in the front panel. As opposed to
having a radiator hanging off the bull bar with hoses to a Subaru engine in
the back. Anyone know about it?

71 Ghia Convertible top latch replacement by
Steve Mc
Is it just those 2 screws, or is there something hidden whereas the top
needs to come off to replace the latch?
I don't want to get into something I possibly can't finish.
Thanks,

A light horn? by
Mr. K[_2_]
I think it's more an AutoBahn thing, but I'm thinking of a light horn.
Any ideas?
It's to go on a '71 Ghia. I might add air horns too.

retro fitting a fuel reserve petcock by
Mr. K[_2_]
I see in the catalogue that they still sell a reserve valve for the
bottom of a type one gas tank. but apparently changed the threaded part
after '61.
what would be involved in fitting one to a newer. say '71 ghia tank?

Midnight Repairs by
David Gravereaux
He came down the back drive just before midnight on Christmas Eve. I was
out in the shop, about to call it a night when I heard the unmistakable
sound of a Volkswagen running on three cylinders. Bad valve.
It was an early model high-roof delivery van. Bright red with white
trim. He pulled up...

"Generator" light glows rather dimly by
Mr. K[_2_]
of course only while the car is running. turning on the lights doesn't
seem to make it brighter. Is this to be expected in a 42 y.o. type 1.
I just replaced the regulator with a Nueva

preheater troubles by
David Gravereaux
basically a stock motor with an EMPI 3417 exhaust. preheater tubes are
connected, but does little work keeping the manifold warm. Most likely
from the less backpressure pushes little exhaust gases though now.
Is there such a thing as an electric heater blanket I can wrap the
manifold in or maybe...

Nomenclature Help? Boot, bonnet and ? by
Veteran[_2_]
Is this right?
The Boot is the truck or is it the cabriolet's top?
The Bonnet is the hood over the engine. But is that true for a rear
engined one?
A RagTop is the sunroof model. Or
as the Americans call ; a convertible.
I'm confused.

Update: I sold the pristine '72 to a friend in need. I still have
Micah's '58 and it is still looking good. Oh, and I still have the
f*ucked up engine Jake Raby so9ld me eons ago - it is in storage along
with the GTII-e.
