89 Jetta with no lap belts ? by
Chris Etzel
Hey all,
I've got an 89 Wolfsburg Jetta with the 3-point belts in the rear seats, but
only a shoulder harness that goes from the inside edge of the seat to the
door (and is required to be latched to start the car). I've thoroughly
looked and can't see where the lapbelts have been removed or were...

VW brain fart by
ihatespam
It's probably just me, but the upcoming Jetta (most recent auto mags have
pics) has to be one of the WORST VW designs to come down the pike in a long
time. I mean, styling inspiration via Corolla? How more mundane and boring
can a car get than that? I'm not much of a fan of the newest Golf...

TDI auto timing belt question. by
Rob
I'm looking at a used 2001 Jetta TDI auto with about 69k miles on it and was
wondering about the timing belt eminence on it (owner said it has never been
changed). Called one dealer and the guy said he was thinking that all 2000
and above Jetta's auto's 85k before it needs changing, but have read...

'87 Jetta GLI 16V - progress by
Rex B
OK guys, here's where I'm at now with this (formerly) dead VW:
After going through everything from air cleaner to intake, repairing
what little I could find wrong, replacing all suspect vac hoses, and
fixing one vacuum leak, I got it where I could drive it - barely. It's
obviously running way...

'92 Jetta Diesel-White somke upon startup by
Nevermind
......I'm looking for a VW to convert to a greasecar and I came across a
'92 Jetta diesel that emits a small plume of white smoke the first few
seconds after startup.I'm new to diesels, and I was wondering if this is
a benign occurance,or could it be something more ominous like a head
gasket.? The...

Environmentalist chooing between hybrid & Jetta TDI with BioDeisel by
Sheila Hoffman
We're going to be buying a new car and had long thought it would be a Prius.
Now we're pretty convinced to go with a Jetta TDI using BioDeisel. Before we
take the plung I've been researching a lot online. My only hesitation right
now is the poor reliability reports I keep seeing about VW in...

16V timing belt question by
Rick
Just swapped in a 2.0L 16V in place of the old 1.8L 16V. I replaced a
lot of parts on in 2.0 before it went in since it was a used engine from a
Passat and not a rebuild. Head gasket, seals, water pump, timing belt etc
were all replaced.
I'm wondering if I installed the timing belt off by one...

Transmission - vibrations in reverse by
Rob Guenther
Hi
I've just noticed today that when I am in reverse (4 speed automatic, 1999.5
Golf TDI) and my foot is on the brake the car shakes quite a bit, and the
noise from the engine get very low pitched... no change in idle speed other
then the usual slight drop. When you let the brake off the idle...

Suspension Springs for 1976 Rabbit? by
HerHusband
I recently put a set of reconditioned BBS 14x6.5 wheels with 195/60-14
tires on my 1976 Rabbit. They look nice and the car drives well.
However, when I hit a significant bump in the road, the left front tire
scrapes the front fender! That one wheel is the only wheel that I have
noticed scraping...

1.8 T Chipping by

I was thinking of buying one of those performance chips for my MK4 jetta
1,8t for a little more extra ponies. Has anyone done this and have a horror
story? Would anybody be for/against it? It would be nice to know if
chipping would create things breaking or it would be an advantage.
Thanks for...

2004 Jetta TDI Oil Change Question by
tug99
How many quarts of oil does the Jetta take? My 2002 Jetta TDI took 4
quarts, my local VW dealer charged me for 5 quarts on my 2004 Jetta TDI.
Was there a change made in the oil capacity ?
Best,
Rob

Driving a US-market-Jetta in Europe by
Carsten Poulsen
Hi,
I am planning to bring my US Jetta back to Europe and I wonder if
anyone knows if it is possible to drive an "American/Mexican" Jetta in
Europe. The gasolin I use in the US is 87 octane and minimum in Europe
is 92. But from what I know you can't compare these numbers directly,
since the method...

Current leakage problem by

Car got involved in accident and now out of body shop. Hood, Radiator
and light lamp were replaced. Keyless entry stopped working after the
accident. Also when I open the door using key it is kind of hard and
require a lot more force to turn the key either closing or opening the
door.
The problem...

98 beetle speedometer by
[email protected]
My girlfriend has a 98 beetle with an erratic speedometer. At highway
speeds, the needle bounces back and forth about 5mph. That means she
cant use the cruise. Very annoying. The ******* dealer said that they
would need to pull the tranny to replace the slipping speedo gear.
They want $700 to...

Why do thieves like to steal the VW emblem? by
Paul B.
This is the second time my '96 Golf's emblem has been stolen. I was
surprised when the guy at my local VW dealer informed me that this is
very common. He claims he has at least 3 VW owners a week ordering a
new emblem. He thinks it has something to do with people wanting to
imitate the Beastie...

03 TDI - Cracked block by

Just thought I'd write a note to let everyone know what just happened to
my 03 Jetta TDI wagon...
I got it new in '03 and before 20K my coolant light went on. Brought it
to the dealer and they said to just add some. I told them I was worried
because if there was a leak, it wasn't coming out the...
