Marine 454 Problems/Questions by
Robert C. Bosworth
I have a 454 that was marinized by PCM in my 1989 Supra Saltare ski boat.
Ever since I purchased the boat last year it has been running horribly at
WOT -- this question is about something different however. Stick with me --
it may get long. I'm a complete amateur at this stuff so I'm going...

Best way to service the car after warranty by
IPavlov
Hi,
I'm looking for advice about the best way to service
the car after warranty. I have 2001 Honda Accord.
Should I continue all the routine services with Honda's
authorized dealer or are there other, better and more
cost-effective options to serve it?
Dealer's service departments arguably know...

fuel consumption enigma by
carl
Hello,
I have been searching to find info on this problem. The car is a
Mitsubishi Space Star 1.3 16 V 1999.
Normal consumption averaged 6.2 l / 100 km. After a while, but
suddenly, fuel consumption lowered, starting at 5 l to even 4 l / 100
km. And this on average and instantaneous rate.
A fill...

High Engine Temperature Guage and A/C shutting off by
[email protected]
2000 Ford Ranger, 4.0L, 6 cyl, 5-spd manual transmission, 95K miles
Haynes refers to two engine coolant senders, one that drives the guage
on the dash (the sending unit) and one that communicates to the engine
computer (the sensor). Advance Auto Parts refers to a "rectangular"
and a "round" ECT,...

Engine coolant temperature sensor/sending unit by
[email protected]
2000 Ford Ranger, 4.0L 6 cylinder, 5-speed manual transmission, 95K
miles.
Now that the days are warmer, my temp guage climbs straight up to high
(in about 15 minutes of driving) and my A/C cuts out. I figure that my
Engine coolant temperature sensor or sending unit (Haynes says they are
different...

Rear brake replace, '94 Corolla. Help by
Bill
Hello:
I'm finishing a replacement of rear brake hoses, cylinders, shoes and drums
on my '94 Corolla. I can't seem to get the drums on now without a lot of
force. I don't want to keep banging them on and cause damage to the shoes
or the wheel studs or the drums. It looks like the shoes are on...

Turn sig. conundrum -- ' 72 Dodge RV by
[email protected]
'72 Dodge RV, 24 ft., 360 cu.
The turn signals -- either side, and both the inside turn indicator and
the actual turn signals outside -- do not flash, but instead stay
steady on when I try to use them.
I've replaced the flasher unit (and measure 0.2 volts on both sides).
I measure no 12 volts at...

Passenger, Touring, Performance, etc., which tire is "best"? by
RPS
I am confused by tire classifications like passenger, touring,
performance, etc. Which one is 'best' for a 'normal' person---let us
say someone like me? :-)
(1) I drive about equally in city and highway.
(2) I live in an apt, with no room to store winter tires, so I do need
all-weathers.
(3) I...

Useless break wear indicators? by
larry moe 'n curly
Can those wear indicators on disk brake pads be heard by people who are
driving around with their windows rolled up? I've noticed lots of cars
squealing constantly because of them, and a friend of mine who's fussy
about car care (but doesn't know about cars) said that he never knew
tha this brakes...

Brakes fading, then failed by
Jasper Janssen
My grandmother had a bit of a scare yesterday. She doesn't drive her Fiat
Punto (8 years old, 12k km or so, bought new) very much (it is, in effect,
the Real Thing of the 'always driven by an elderly lady' car -- maintained
at a local garage on a yearly basis), but yesterday she went to take...

Tire pressure question... which number do I follow? by
ijosef
I drive a well-used 1998 Chevy Prism, and while getting a few routine
maintenance things done I was told that my rear passenger side tire had
some pretty severe cupping. I went to the local tire bargain bin and
got two used tires (the tread was almost 100% though) to put on the
front and put my...

Help interpreting oxygen sensor data by
Martijn van Duijn
Hi,
After seeing a decrease in mileage on my 96 Ford Taurus wagon (~ 24 to
~20 mpg. 140.000 Mi odo), I decided to take a look at my oxygen sensors
as a possible culprit.
I read out their voltages during idle when warm using my Elm ODB
scantool, and plotted...

Brake life expectancy by
LurfysMa
What is the life expectancy of the brakes on a 1999 Lexus LS400 under
normal or average driving conditions?
I bought the car in 2002 with 21,000 miles on it. At 48,000, the
service department at the dealership said the front brakes were at 2mm
and replaced them. The rear brakes were still at...

Hi... I would like to take my son to the "All British Car Day"

"boiled" over the other day as I was coming home from work with it.
The best guess I have heard is a stuck relief valve... Is that a
real possibilty? The steering works...

Reading ECU data in older Hondas (pre ODB-II)? by
Thorsten Ostermann
Hi!
Has anyone experience with reading sensor values (e.g. lambda/oxigen,
speed, temperature) from the ECU via the diagnosis interface? For cars
manufactured in 2000 and later, this interface is a standard called
OBD-2. But what about older Honda cars? Many VWs are OBD-2 compliant,
even if...

96 Nissan Sentra... Need help isolating engine squeal by

I have a 96 Sentra GXE and I am trying to isolate an intermittent
squeal from my engine area that I hear at startup and then goes away.
I recently changed out my water pump so I know it is not that. I have
