83 rabbit exhaust-help by
chris
Hi all,
I am hoping somebody can give me a bit of advice. Recently the pipe
in my exhaust system rusted clean through and was actually dragging
under my car. It needed some help so I took it to a local muffler
shop. They told me my entire exhaust system was shot and needed
replacement. My car...

'90 Golf faltering for a second. Transfer fuel pump? by
tonyw
Hi,
Checking in with the gurus. I have a '90 Golf (gas engine, 8 valve)
that's been exhibiting short bouts of faltering on acceleration most
times when going uphill. The engine doesn't cut out entirely and
continues running, but power is severely reduced so the car
essentially coasts for up to...

Scirocco won't run with warm engine by
nutso fasst[_2_]
Hi all. Got a problem that started suddenly. 81 Scirocco starts and
runs fine so long as engine compartment is cool. Warm things up,
either by running or by sun on the hood (or on the engine with hood
up) and the engine will suddenly seem like it's running on one
cylinder..."chug..chug..chug..",...

Offering extra services during routine maintenance by
Eric O.
A couple days ago, I took my 2009 VW Rabbit in for its 10,000 mile/1
year service, as recommended by the owner's manual. When I got there
and the service tech was looking at my car, he said that based on how
the tires looked (I don't remember the term he used), he thought my car
might need an...

Opinions on the W8 Passat by
[email protected]
Inquiring minds want to know dept.
My local mechanic has a W8 Passat with a pristine body but a blown
engine at his shop.
The owner is thinking about replacing the engine. My guy can get a used
W8 motor for $4500 or a replacement engine from VW for $7500.
Is this car worth fixing?

96 Jetta TD, wiper control arms "falling off" by
[email protected]
My wipers are currently inoperable on my Jetta, and when I pop open the
hood and check, the arms appear to have fallen off the "crank" that connects
to the wiper motor (which works fine). Re-connecting the arms just gets me
another swipe or two before they fall off again.
The arms are relatively...

Cabin Air Filter for VW Golf III TDI 90HP GL 1995 by
Wao
I just bought a spare cabin air filter for my VW Golf III 90HP GL '95. The
old one was very dirty and clogged up so I need a new one. The previous
filter's brand was 'Valeo' but the new one is 'MECAFILTER'
(http://www.mecafilter.com/). This new filter comes with a set of
instructions that can...

Won't Start by
Rocco
2005 Passat 1.8T manual, only owner. Low mileage, about 35,000.
Wouldn't start about 2 months ago. Llights, window, radio, etc. all
worked, but no cranking or ignition sound. Put fresh battery in key.
Still wouldn't start. Came back couple of hours later to jump
battery. Started without...

Clutch release failure - opinions please... by
JettaPZ
Hello,
Tried posting this earlier - no joy. Anyway, i have an early '99 Jetta
WE; 2.0L, 020 transaxle, pretty heavily modified.
It's blown (Neuspeed supercharger) and that might provide some insight
here.
The problem is the clutch doesn't fully disengage, even if the clutch
cable is adjusted too...

Current Leak in 1993 Corrado by
[email protected]
The battery goes dead if the car is not used for two or three days.
I have replaced the battery and the fuse box with new units.
An ammeter in series with the positive lead to the battery shows a small
current draw with the ignition key turned off and removed. The draw does
not go away if all...

Who decides dealer inventory? by
semi-ambivalent
I don't want to over-simplify this but I've been looking for a manual
transmission jetta SE along the Front Range of Colorado and they are
just not to be found. All I see are TDIs and/or automatics.
Overwhelmingly with black interiors and usually black exteriors.
Monotonous. And boring.
Are these...

I SOLD OUT ... by
YouKnowWho@YouKnowWhere
Promised myself that I would never get a water cooled VW .. but then I found
this one and it sucked the money out of my wallet.
Had no choice but to take it home .. It had no owners manual - It has been
customized on the inside. I am waiting for the manual
to arrive from an eBay seller but...

Only one Passat wagon model now? by
Bert Hyman
Just looked at the VW website and notice that there's only one model
Passat wagon shown, with no S, SE, SEL, etc. nomenclature. There appear
to be no engine or transmission options.
When did that happen? Is it real or just some temporary marketing push
on the Web site?

40K service on 09 TDI by
Wes[_3_]
I just had my service today. $842.61. Yes, that's right, over 800 dollars.
I've never felt more raped in my life. I'm so upset, and to add insult to
injury, I'm not sure they used the correct engine oil. I'm setting here
(just got back from the dealer) pondering what my plan of action should...

VW Maintainability by
John[_28_]
Had 40 years experience of air cooled VW,s , thinking of a getting a
Golf/Jetta. Have had very negative comments though oddly enough about
reliability and in particular about even simple repairs being a major issue
because of densely packed under bonnet mechanicals. Any comments at all?.

Clutch issues; opinions? by
JettaPZ
Hey All,
I have an A3 Jetta 2.0L (very modified) that has developed a clutch-
release issue.
The clutch suddenly wouldn't release fully; expected to find the
clutch cable almost broken.
But it's intact and it's been long enough since that it should have
separated entirely by now if that
were the...

Life expectancy of 1995 VW Golf TDI 90HP by
Wao
I've got this Volkswagen Golf with a TDI engine developing 90 HP which was
made circa 1995. It's got about 155,000 miles on the speedometer. That car
burns some oil but other than that it's running just fine. I figure there's
an expensive maintenance job --timing belt-- to be done in about...
