1992 Saturn by
mpiquet
My 92 Saturn SL1 (5speed) battery was dead, I got a jump start and let it
run over 20 min.
When I put it into gear, it just died and would not start without another
jump. Again, once I put it into gear, it quit.
I've recently had a tune up and new alternator put on. Any suggestions?
It's now been...

Replacing plugs, wires, serpentine belt and tensioner by
MPost
I have a 1993 SC-2 that just passed 100K. I took it into my mechanic to get
some other work done, and he suggested that I replace my spark plugs and
spark plug wires (for $400) and the accessory drive belt and tensioner (for
$350). These prices seemed to be excessive, especially for the plugs...

1993 SC-2 Power Window Won't Close by
MPost
I have a 1993 SC-2 with power windows. Just recently, my passenger's side
window started closing slowly (it seems fine when opening) and then totally
refused to close today. For now, I just want to get the window closed so
that I don't get soaked in the rain and will fix it correctly...

Engine having trouble keeping steady coolant temp by
MPost
I have a 1993 SC-2 with 105K on it. Up until now, the temperature gauge has
always been quite steady in all types of weather and driving conditions,
typically staying just below the mid-point, or just above it. I just noticed
that the engine runs hot when I have the AC on (it goes over 3/4 of the...

Aiming headlights on 1993 SC-2 by
MPost
I have a '93 SC-2 with flip-up headlights. I've noticed lately that I'm
having trouble seeing at night, especially when it's raining out. I replaced
both bulbs with Sylvania Silverstars, which helped a little. However, I'm
suspecting that my headlights are just aimed too high, which is preventing...

ABS Light by
MPost
I have a 93 SC2 with 97K on it. About once a week when I start up the car,
the ABS light comes on and stays on until I shut the car off. Usually, if I
restart the car immediately after the light comes on, the light goes out.
I've never seen the light come on while I'm driving or turn off once...

Headlight Replacement on a 1993 SC-2 by
MPost
The low beam on one of my headlights blew out on my 1993 SC-2 coupe. Does
anyone know how hard it is to replace? Do I replace the individual bulb
itself, or do I need to replace the entire housing that contains the low
beam and the high beam? And, is there anything tricky about making...

Cooling system question by
MPost
I had/have a problem with my cooling system (1993 SC-2, 105K) in that my
temperature gauge all of a sudden started to do 2 strange things:
1. Run hot (over 3/4) or cool (under 1/4), seemingly connected to driving
conditions (hot when I was running the AC or climbing a grade on a hot day,
cool when...

Power window won't go up by
MPost
I have a 93 SC-2. My passenger's side power window will open smoothly with
no problems. However, when I try to close it by holding the switch in the up
position, nothing happens. I can reliably close it by clicking the switch
up, releasing it, and repeating, perhaps a dozen times. Each time,...

Clearing out A/C condenser drain holes by
MPost
I believe the drain holes where condensate from my air conditioner drains
are plugged up. I don't see any water dripping on the ground when I run the
A/C and I get a faint smell of mildew when I first start up the fan.
Unfortunately, my Chilton's manual doesn't show where these holes are or how
to...

Poor gas mileage on 97 SL1 by
MR
The last few tanks of gas have indicated that my gas mileage has
dropped considerably since I changed plugs.
I could not get to the Saturn dealer to get the oem plugs, so I bought
some at an auto store that are supposed to be the right plugs. But, I
have only used the Saturn plugs since buying the...

Alternator is gone-need some advice by
MR
I have a 97 SL1 and the alternator just died after 160k miles. Can't
get anything that will last anymore.<g>
I took a quick look and it looks like the power steering pump has to
come off to get to the alternator or either you have to pull the
engine. Just kidding. Also looks like the pulley has...

Drop in MPG by
MR
For several months my 97 SL1 has gotten really bad MPG compared to what it
used to get: 35mpg+ vs 25mpg now.
I have changed the plugs, but not the wires and was wondering if there is
a sensor or sensors that could be causing this.
And are the sensors something that I could change out my self. ...

Setting idle rpm by
MR
My manuals are packed away from moving recently. The idle speed on my
97 SL-1 AT has creeped up to around 900rpms over the last few years.
Could someone briefly tell me how to lower the rpms?
Sure would appreciate it.
TIA

"Secret" 2001 Saturn Alignment Defect by
Mr. Goodwrench
If you bring your car in, Saturn policy is that they will not inform you of
this TSB unless you specifically ask for it by name, otherwise you will get
an alignment and your car will continue to cup and chew up the rear tires,
possibly causing a blowout, and loss of control of the vehicle.
This...

Replacing instrument panel lights? by
Mr. K.V.B.L.
Victim is a '99 SC1...
I'm not talking about the dashboard lights which covers the speed,
tach, etc. All of the lights that light up my heating/cooling
sliders, lights to the buttons on the radio, etc. All of them are out
after 8 years. They all seemed to go pretty much at the same time.
Does...
