water cooled turbo charger without water by
Scott
Ok, I have a rather stupid sounding question -- what happens if you run
a oil+water cooled turbo without connecting it to water. The reason I'm
asking is I'm looking for a turbo to put on a 1600 vw aircooled engine.
During my junkyard-shopping, it looks like most everything I find is
water+oil...

Master Cylinder bolt spacers by
User Example
Hey. You know those spaces that fit in the framehead that the Master
Cylinder bolts go through? Well, I bought some steel tubing of the
right size to make them. 12mm OD

The elbows for that air thing under the hood by
Ray Dios Haque
I am in the midst of replacing my dash. I haven't decided with what
yet, but I have peeled off the ugly cracked (and low quality) vinyl
slap-over replacment. In the process I decided this would be a good
time to take care of my cracked up and equally low quality air vent
parts. But I can't find...

Sagging headliner fix by
[email protected]
I searched for weeks for a simple fix to my sagging headliner woes.
But eventually I had to give up on looking for advice and bite the
bullet. Here is what I did:
I carefully pulled the headline loose on the driver side where it clips
in the door frame. Next I reached in and removed the first...

OT Is it wrong of me to think... by

they can go to a birthday party (that they've probably known about for
a while) ... Nevermind. I feel like I'm a GREAT parent right about

Auto Chokes by
Bill Payer
Are the two choke elements on the twin-carb 1800 the same? It appears that
the choke flap inside the the two carbs moves in different directions, one
clockwise the other anti. Both the elements in my bus move in the same
direction when heating.
Any advice??
Cheers.

Brembo rear drums by
Tony Bennett
Hi
Just received some of the above which I bought off ebay. Call me
suspicious, but does anyone know how to identify the genuine Brembo part
rather than a cheaper drum.
Thanks for any info or links to pictures etc.
The are to fit my 1972- but I think rear drums are fairly universal anyway.

OT Gilligan's Island by

Sad new for fans of Gilligan's Island. Gilligan(Bob Denver) has passed
away. I used to watch that show all the time when I was a kid.

So after the sandrail sat for 3 months... by

to putting the clamp into place and setting the timing "by eye"

oriented)... I removed the...

Spark plugs by
bug '59
Hi all,
Probably a lame question, but ask it anyhow.
Is there a torque spec. on the sparkplugs?
I'm told not to tighten it too hard because the treads will be "eaten out"
after a while. Is this true, and what is too tight?
Any advise is very welcome.

Looking for a Thing top in the Seattle area by
Jonah Edwards
Just (finally!) got myself a '74 Thing, but it has no top. I need
either a hardtop or a frame (I can get a soft top pretty easily), and
I'd prefer to get it locally. Already talked to Bow Wow Cars, they
don't have any leads. Reply here or to if
you've got one you'd like...

Flaps & Thermostat by
Joao Eliseu
While I was replacing my heater cables and since I was under the car, I took a look
on the thermostat. I was surprised when I fond that the thermostat was fixed only
by the rod that comes between the cylinder #1 and #3. It should be attached to the
support by a screw and a nut. I took the...

Better Gas Mileage by
[email protected]
To All:
Several people have written to ask what they can do to go a little
farther on a gallon of gasoline. Often times they cite some really
dismal figures, such as 14mpg for a bug or 12 for a bus.
Basic rule for stretching your mileage is to drive slower. Alas, that
isn't always possible here...
