Is a Jetta TDI a good car? by Jeff Olsen
I am seriously considering one of these, primarily for the fuel economy and the potential to run it on Biodiesel. I have never owned a VW and the reputation sort of precedes them... supposed to be fun to drive, lots of personality, but prone towards nickle-and-dime repairs. I own 2 Toyotas right...

Cold Engine Hesitation - 1993 Jetta GL 2.0L Gas by [email protected]
When the engine is cold (winter or summer, it doesn't matter) when I shift into 2nd gear, the engine hesitates/"chucks". After a minute or so no problems shifting into 2nd or any other gear. Any ideas?

Be careful by Chicago Paddling-Fishing
This story (http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/custom/newsroom/chi-060714kane-wreck,1,7046004.story) doesn't say what year the Jetta was but on the news, the police chief from Sugar Grove was commenting about how there was pretty much nothing left of the Jetta but little clumps of metal. (If the...

Water leak-Condensate drain-98 VR6 by Stephen Neal
I have a water leak into the passenger side when the A/C is running a lot. I can touch the source of the leak at the condensate drain(I think) where the plastic tube hits a rubber gasket going into the firewall. But, I can't really get at it to look at what to do from inside the car due to the...

88 Cabriolet floods when hot by PeterD
I've an 88 cabriolet that is flooding when hot. Been an off-and-on problem for a few years, but getting worse. Recently tuned up, I suspect the '#5" injector may be leaking, but is there anything else I should check as well? (runs well once started and cleared out.)

I am considering buying a top/frame/headline off of a guy who's parting out an 88 cabriolet. Seems like a good deal and seems like less work than installing a new top on the existing frame.....IF --> they are compatible in terms of bolts, etc. I have an 82, he has an 88. As far as you guys know,...

Rust/scal *inside* rocker panel - 98 Cabrio by Jim Elbrecht
My wife's Cabrio convertible has a weird 'leak'-- actually the problem is that it isn't leaking enough. It appears that the design* allows for rain to run off the top and inside the fenders to the rocker panel where it is drained out through weep holes. The weep holes are clogged with rust &...

97 Cabrio Clutch Replacement Cost? by Ron Rathburn
Can anyone provide a sanity check on the cost of replacing the clutch on a 97 Cabrio stick? Per my mechanic: Replace: Clutch Plate Pressure Plate Bearing Have the flywheel stone ground to avoid chattering with the new clutch. Replace the self adjusting cable with a manually adjusted one.

Bentley manual by Jonny
As usual, I referenced the Bentley manual before changing the valve cover gasket on the 88 Fox. I quoted "cylinder head cover gasket" as noted in the manual over the phone to the local parts dealer. As usual, they figured out what the Bentley manual was talking about in standard terms used for...

New Beetle Advice Please...TDI or Gasoline? by jules
We're looking to buy a USED "new" beetle (automatic). I've been doing some research on whether it's worth getting a TDI rather than a gasoline version based on the high mpg of a TDI. We've got teenagers who will be driving it sometimes, so reliability is an issue. I've seen the warnings about...

Anyone out there add water injection to your VR6 Corrado? I bought one that is a teenage mutant ninja tuner mightmare!! It will not pass NO emissions tests due to no EGR valve or any way to put one on it. I was thinking the best way to pass the test is to cool the combustion process with water...
