1999 Beetle Overheating by
'whatever'
Tried replacing the heat sensor .. Didn't help. The fan just doesn't come
on and the car over heats .. BUT .. With the a/c running the fan does come
on every minute or so and then there is no overheating problem .. Anyone ???
I miss my air-cooled VW ...

What do you think about 'Citi' cars (re) introduced to the US Market? by
TBerk
As in Lupo/Polo sized VWs or the Yaris by Toyota etc.
Not everybody needs a big F150 or SUV, and some are not just going to
get a hybrid car, nor deal with (bio)diesel as an alternative.
However, there seems to be a market for fuel economy provided by a
smaller footprint 'Citi' or Metro-Car, one...

VW Trumped Again - Now By Nissan? by
jpmccormac
Those who think that VW is becoming bloated by moving upscale with the
MK V Jetta and Passat, etc., may be interested to learn that Nissan has
taken a cue from (potential, possible, likely?) demand for more
economical cars like the old Rabbit and early Golf and recently
announced it's bringing the...

Low pressure tires by
Jonny
Awhile back, established at this newsgroup that AC compressor use does
affect gas mileage in small vehicles like an older VW with small engine.
How drastically can tire pressure affect gas mileage in similar older VW
with small engine (1.8L)?
An example. Recommended tire pressures by VW. These...

Do VW steel wheels or alloy wheels weigh more? by
Fred Fartalot
I am thinking of replacing the stock 16 inch steel wheels on my 2004 Golf
with 16 inch alloy RAVE wheels.
Will the new alloy wheels be heavier or lighter weight?
I asked the VW dealer last week and the 2 guys there argued about it and I
never got an answer and finally just left.
Thank you.

Golf V GTI DSG floor pedals ? by
Juan King
My wife has new 2006 Golf Mk5 GTI DSG.
I have noticed that only the brake and accelerator pedals are in
the alloy/rubber facings. The left footrest is merely the dark
grey plastic. In the sales brochures, it clearly shows both the
GTI and R32 with the alloy/rubber left footrest on the DSG...

Major coolant freak-out RIP VW Beetle 2000!??! by
JGW
I had a total coolant leak last night (around mid-night) on the way
home. I managed to find a garage a fill it back up - hoping I would
be able to make it home. (Big mistake) As I was in the middle of
know where and it was dark and freezing outside I decided to
continue. Little did I know that...

Are the New Jettas Selling? by
grifty
I'm thinking about getting one but the price tag is way too high.
They've made the economical Jetta basically into the Passat and made
the Passat a luxury car. I don't think most people see VW's as luxury
cars. Plus their TV ad campaign completely sucks. No one buys a car for
the air bags. Drove to...

Is it for sure the Catalytic Converter? by
G-Ram
I have had an issue with my 95 Jetta that is quite honestly driving me
crazy. I will give you as much history as possible and god bless anyone
that can really help me.
I bought the car a few years ago. It ran fine when I bought it. When it
is started, about 20 or so minutes in I will see the...

Passat belly pan torn off - how screwed am I? by
Mike Smith
Hi folks,
On my way home from New Years' festivities tonight, someone was nice
enough to leave a muffler and tailpipe laying in the road on a poorly
lit turn, which I hit. No tire or wheel damage that I can see, but the
belly pan ('03 Passat V6) is more than half torn off, and dangling from
a...

Buying our 3rd VW!/GLI comments? by
Steve Grauman
We'll be adding a 3rd VW to our stable to sit alongside my 2002 GTi 1.8T and my
mother's 2004 Touraeg V8. It's a 2005 Jetta GLI 6-speed, we're very excited.
Any input from GLI owners would be appreciated.

What do I do with a beat up but drivable jetta? by
Eric Edwards
I have an '88 Jetta with approximately 125K miles. It looks like hell.
Serious body damage (but no rust). Faded paint. Back seat has a nasty
rip. Nonetheless, it is perfectly drivable. It has been in roughly the
same condition for the last three years and I'm still driving it. At
this...

A1 conversion to 86 octane by
Michael
As you are all aware the price of fuel has increased! I am driving Rabbits
83 & 84 that require at least 89 octane minimum. Is there anyway to modify
the A1 engines to run on regular.
Ty for your anticipated responses.

2003 Passat - Is Super Unleaded Required? by
KJ
Hello All,
I just bought an '03 Passat GLS 1.8 turbo (manual). I put regular
unleaded in it by accident (out of habit actually, since my 95 Jetta
didn't care). Anyway, the car almost didn't start after the second day.
I know the owner, and she states that this has never happened before
(she...

The price of Diesel fuel right now is robbing. Im going to guess that
the price of Diesel fuel this winter will be $5.00 gal! Let them raise
the price and gouge every single Diesel consumers' income out!
