156 bulb warning light by
Makollig Jassvahted
Bloody good isn't it? The thing comes on every time one of the number plate
lights is a bit dodgly, a little tap on the number plate bulb holder sorts
it out.
Now, with a blown N/S dipped headlight bulb it *doesn't* come on.
'Twas tricky removing the duff bulb, I'm thinking it going to be even...

Fiat-Chrysler Alliance by
di9it8
Check this link
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7839542.stm
Chrysler have created an alliance with Fiat, in order to get mid-size
and small cars into the US.
This will surely be the best opening possible in the US for Alfa Romeo

Changing the head on a 156 by
R D S
2.0TS
Is changing the head beyond the scope of the home mechanic?
It is a long time since I got my hands that dirty under the bonnet but in
the past I have changed gaskets on Cav's, Astra's and a Hyundai S-Coupe.
I have told the mechanic to give it me back, he found me a 'new' head after
giving...

The Alfa Went To Ireland by
Zathras
Just back from a 10 day overseas trip to Donegal in the Alfa - which
is a rare breed there!
Out on the western coast there were a few roads that were no-go for
the Alfa due (in the main) to adverse camber though settlement was
also an issue on the peat bogs. The Garmin satnav was...

turn signal indicator switch problem on 156 by
mike
I have an intermittent problem with the turn signal indicator switch on my
156 2.0l TS. When it happens, neither direction indicator will work. tapping
the stalk upwards or downwards causes the odd 'blink' but it won't stay on
even though the stalk locks in position. Seems like a bad connection...

Alfasud Sprint 1.7QV water pump leakage by
Regan
Hello,
My (t)rusty Sprint has has just developed a coolant leak from what
appears to be a core plug in the front of the water pump, although not
one of my various repair manuals shows that particular model of water
pump.
When the engine is hot there's a fast drip, about an eggcupful a minute
and...

156 cold start splutters by
BillC
My 1998 156 1.8 ts takes a while to run smoothly on starting. I have to
feather the throttle for a few minutes and even then the power surges until
it warms up. Anyone had a similar experience?

My GT test drive thoughts by
PhilipS
Hi everyone,
Took a GT 2.0 JTS out for a test drive on Saturday, thought I'd share
my opinions with the group (for what they are worth!), I would welcome
other people's opinions, as I am very seriously thinking of buying.
My comparisons are to my current steed - 147 1.6 lusso.
Overall, I was...

Dual Weber Carb Problem with Choke by
~Zaitsev
I need to install a manual choke on these carburetors.
I ordered a book but it doesn't say anything about chokes. I need to
disconnect the existing choke and install the manual choke.
Or can I get a replacement for the automatic choke that doesn't seem
to function properly?
Thanks.

Climate Control odours by
Barry Bingham
My five year old 156 (that's five years in my ownership) continues
to be a joy in almost every respect except for the climate control. The
deeply unpleasant odours of urine/sweaty socks it emits are driving me
bonkers.
Now I know that climate control needs cleaning - and as well as having...

Alfa 156 buying advice by
Rody
Hi all,
Okay, I'm thinking of buying a 156, 5 years old max, looking to spend
4.5-5 GBP.
First a few assumptions (correct me if I'm wrong):
I'm planning to look at only the 1.8 and 2 litre engines - I'm ignoring
the 1.6 since I'm assuming this will be a little underpowered (hence
more likely to...

156 Aircon Compressor Mode by
Zathras
On the single zone A/C in a 156, I seem to remember that you can
change what happens when you press the button that
activates/deactivates the compressor. IIRC, in one mode, the
'compressor switch' remembers it's setting when the ignition is turned
off and in the other, it turns the compressor on...

Nord ignition problems by

Hi all,
Lately I've been having some strange problems with ignition. When I
try to start my engine in the morning it fires up and then dies with a
cough. Okay, that's normal but then it happens:
On the next attempt the engine is completely dead! Sofar I've replaced
the distributor cap, the lead...
