Thermostat by
GT[_14_]
I completely forgot to ask them to change the thermostat at my last service.
The temp gauge sits around or below 70 and should be at 90. In the recent
cold weather, it has hardly gone over 65 and it takes about 20 minutes
before proper hot air comes through to the cabin. Its always been low, but...

Pikey tyres by
R C Nesbit
The 156 was in need of a pair of front tyres, but since my
financial partners pulled out in June I am flat broke most
of the time.
So I called in to The Tyre Shop, purveyors of cheap rubber
to the denizens of Ollerton (ex mining village) and bought
a pair of economy branded fronts for the...

147 & other Alfa owners by
John
I am just after your advice. I really like the 147 and think it is
one of the best looking hatches on the market. I am interested to
know though if you have had many problems with your 147 or other Alfa
model? And if you have had the odd issue, how much has it hurt you in
the wallet to get it...

I don't like this wine by
GT[_11_]
My 2002 156 2.0jts...
Don't know if the TSparks do this, or if anyone else has even noticed this,
but I can 'hear' when the oil is low: I get a whining noise just as the oil
level falls below the dipstick - it usually needs a pint or so and the whine
goes away. It has always done this from new,...

Considering an alfa as my next car. Need advice. by
MeatballTurbo
Problem I have is that both me and the missus have conpletly different=20
tastes in cars.
I like them to be long(ish) (Saab 9000, 900, Skyline/Supra/GT3k) she=20
likes nice dumpy round mini hatch types (PT cruiser, most superminis, Nu=20
Beetles). just about the only cars we have agreed to liking...

73 Spider - SPICA by
~Zaitsev
The engine runs rich and back fires on deceleration. Someone said that
it had to be tuned to run rich so that it would start cold. I was
wondering if this might be the Thermostatic Actuator? Now for more
questions:
1. What does this actuator do?
2. Where the heck is it? I've looked at the engine...

166 2.5 Questions by
Catman
Well, it's a big old car. Not had much chance to use it yet, but it's
in condition as described. All the buttons seem to work and it shifts
acceptably well ;)
Couple of bits of trim missing off the back console (not that I'm ever
likely to set in the back) and the cowl for the driver's seat...

Just been to collect my 75 by
SteveH
from the garage where I keep it, around 10 miles away.
Haven't had a chance to use it since the first week of June, but once
I'd disconnected the battery, it fired up pretty much instantly.
Who says Alfas are unreliable?

motor control system failure by
jima
Disaster? On journey down to south west, light came on with message as
title. Engine runs with slight hesitation but continued for 75 miles
without mishap. What could it be? I've had a turbo pipe blow
before.....seems different. Oh yeah it's a 1.9 JTD. Cheers. Jim

Reason nunber 187 why I love my Alfa by
Ypnos
Was downtown the other night waiting at traffic lights, minding my own
business and a Celica rolled up next to me with 2 kiddies in it, revving and
doing other things that jap-car owners have to do to get noticed. I was more
than happy to oblige, of course so I force fed them some dust and never...

Alfa Dealer ceased Trading. by
Paul Woodsford
Whilst wife & daughter were visiting a wedding fayre in Cardiff ( dreaded
date in January ) I decided to visit the Cardiff Alfa Romeo dealer, Victoria
Park Motors, to glance over the new Brera having received the promotional
pack from the Alfa dealer in Swansea. Thought this was a mistake , now...

Talk me out of buying a 166 by
[email protected]
I'm thinking of buying a used 166, maybe a '99 and almost certainly a
3l V6 auto. The problem is that I am rather scared of the costs
involved after I purchase. There's a baby on the way and I don't have
much cash so the last thing I want is a massive bill when something
goes wrong.
Can anyone...

159 2.4 JTD by
GT[_3_]
Anyone in here got (or driven) the new 2.4 Diesel plant in a 159 yet. 200
horses and tree uprooting torque sounds pretty impressive. Just wondered
what it 'actually' performs like and what the engine sounds like? I'll be
looking for a second hand (up to 24 months old) one in a year or 2...

Sillyspeed... by
SteveH[_2_]
I should have known this would happen.
Car is a 2002 built (facelift interior) 2.0 Selespeed Veloce.
Fault code: P1742 - Selection Range Sensor.
Am I correct in assuming this is the actuator, and will be hugely
expensive to fix?
On the other hand, I joined the ranks of the Italian...

My 1999 156 is constantly damp internally, is there a pollen filter or
similar that could be holding water?

156 picked up today, well chuffed by
R D S
Picked up my 2.0 TS 156 today and can barely stop grinning.
It does everything I want it to do and looks reasonably grown up, well at
least till I put a big boot spoiler on it.
I would recommend one to anybody.

A Newbie Posts by
mick
I have long been an admirer of the Alfa mark, and am finally able , at my
time of life, to aquire one , be it second hand.
I would like advice please on the pro's and indeed, cons of buying a second
hand low mileage 147 from a dealer and what would be a reasonable price to
pay for a car say , no...

Tyres: Best foot forward? or back? by
Buzzardous Cross
Hi Guys,
Have seen quite a lot of good info 'bout tyres on this group. And a
few times it's been mentioned that on FWD cars, it's best to have the
better pair of tyres at the rear.
Firstly, is that the general opinion of the Alfisti on this group?
Second, anybody got an idea why this is...
