Petrol Octane - Was: Considering a BMW - A Few Questions by
Dodgy
Was just reading the "Considering a BMW - A Few Questions" and I was
curious after seeing a few of the replies.
Over here in the UK you've got a choice of 2 types of unleaded "gas".
IIRC you've got bog standard unleaded at 95 octane, and super (aka
expensive) unleaded at 98.
The old 4 star...

e39 2002, should I keep it? by
[email protected]
hello,
I have a question regarding reliability. I've learned from experience
that certain parts in BMW cars just aren't as reliable as japanese or
even some american cars.
My car has about 65k miles and it's gotten the radiator replaced
(after research I saw this is a common problem with these...

opinions ? 1999 328 by
[email protected]
I'm considering a 1999 328i with a little over 100K on the odometer.
The car looked, drove and felt like a dream. Appeared very well
maintained.
Any opinions on this model/year ?
I'm a bit shy about buying given the reputation of high repair cost
and would like a few exper opinions..
thanks

Parking lot Rage by
Mikep
So here I am parking in the Home Depot parking lot - for our international
readers, Home Depot is a very large store that sells home improvement
products. And they have a LARGE parking lot.
So I head off to the farthest space in the lot in my X5 (keeping on topic
for the BMW NG) - maybe 200...

3 Series Sedan five to eight years (or high miles) later? by
Greg Vandersen
I would like to hear experiences from folks who bought a 3 series
between maybe 2003-2005 or so, or have 100k+ miles on it.
What is the cost of repairs like late in the lifecycle? How has the
car measured up, in terms of reliability, to other vehicles you've
owned? Why would you or why would you...

BMW Auto box gear select problem (offset drive gear???) Wierd by
richie
Hi,

I know these are generaly very sound cars. My friend has a similar
model that I've driven, when I am in neutral (from memory) the gear
lever can...

[E39] Floaty steering at hwy speeds by
Pete[_2_]
Has anyone experienced floaty/twitchy steering on their e39 at highway
speeds (say 80 mph)? The best I could describe it is as if you were kept
getting hit by crosswinds and had to keep correcting the car's path. It's
not very apparent and it's not that the steering wheel gets pulled out of...

5w-30 or 10W-60 in an M54 @ 140 000 km now ? by
frischmoutt
Hello,
Until mid 2008, my BMW dealer used to put Castrol oil (SAE 5W30 LL04) in
my Z3 (M54 Engine).
Before last November, BMW rationalized their stocks, restricting the
varieties.
At the last Oil Service, they put a thinner oil, rebranded "Original BMW
Quality Longlife-04 SAE 5W-30", made in...

Oil Service Light Reset by
rlking
I own a 2001 525i and I can't find the connector for reseting the oil
light! The only connector I can find is the ODC connector located down on
the dash by the brake and hood release inside the car. I do not know which
pins to ground to reset for the oil light, if it can be done? Everybody
says...

325iX AWD question by
Matthew Warren
Looking at an '89 325iX and the owner says the AWD works sometimes and
doesn't at others. Haven't had a chance to drive it yet, but wondered if
any one might have a reasonable guess as to the cause. I don't know much
about the AWD systems. thanks in advance

BMW 545 vs Acura RL by
Scott C
Test drove the Acura RL today - a nice car, for $10K less, same equipment,
as the 545. Provides an interesting choice. Standard on the RL is a Nav
System, heated seats, 6 disk CD changer, remote fuel door release, trunk
pass through, voice activated controls, RF key - no key needed in...

BMW 328SE - Low beam failure by
Terry Pinnell
The computer on my 1996 328SE is displaying 'Low beam failure'. Can I
ask the garage to simply replace the nearside dipped headlight bulb
please? Or have I got to brace myself for a completely new headlamp
unit?

Effect of air conditioner on mileage by
Sun God
My beloved 1996 750il has only an analog "mpg" needle which I believe is a
manifold pressure guage based on how it reacts.
On a long cruise this past weekend I played with the air conditioner. If
you belive the MPG needle, the A/C takes fully as much power as 10 MPG on
the meter, at 60 mph.
Does...

What a dumb argument. If it held any weight we should all be driving
Mercedes or Fords.
