Replacing main fuel pump. Question pinching fuel line from transfer pump. by
tonyw
Hi,
It's the '85 Golf (gas, auto) again. Seems every fix solves the
stalling problem for a few weeks, then the stalling re-appears. Last
fix was replacing the 21 year old ignition switch 2 weeks ago and the
car ran fine. Then yesterday engine would run fine for a few seconds
then cut out. If wife...

My Rabbit, Caliber, Versa review by
Jon R. Patrick
I had some free time away from the wife and kids yesterday, and I
decided to take the time to drive 5 cars.
Unfortunately, my local dealers didn't have a Fit or a Mazda3 on the
lot, so I ended up just comparing 3.
Now, these are a bit "mixed and matched", but they are all relatively in
the same...

Why VW's get bad gas mileage? by
Jon R. Patrick
First, I'm a fan of VW, so I'm not just here attacking them. I had an
87 Fox I used my last 2 years of college, and it's one of those cars I'm
sorry I ever got rid of.
I MAY be in the market to replace my current ride (a focus), and the new
Rabbit has caught my eye... reminding me of the days...

glow plugs? Relay Maybe? by
TDPassat
I have a 1993 Volkswagen Passat TD
We have a Glow Plug Problem, They won't glow up unless you manually
make the contacts ( of the relay ) come together, then they'll light up
and the car starts no problem! I've changed the Relay (#104 in the 12th
position) , and still no such luck. I've had...

"valve" or "button" in diesel fuel filler tube? by
jtaylor
Was putting fuel in and admiring another (newer) VW diesel, and buddy tells
me that if he pushes a littlle button on the inside of the filler tube he
can get another two gallons in.
Mine has that button too; I looked.
What is it supposed to be for - and is it safe to put the extra fuel in?

how to remove diff bearing race? by
[email protected]
clutch mystery aside, and soon to be replaced, I have turned my
attention to the tranny on the bench. I have significant play in the
output shafts (radial) and will replace the diff bearings (only 70k
miles on them), along with syncros. But how do I remove the bearing
race when shimming up the...

98 golf transmission problems by
Serge Dupuis
Hey folks,
I have a 98 Golf, automatic transmission, 80 000km.
At first, while accelerating from a stop, the car would go into neutral
after 1st gear, needing to pull over until going back into gear. This
could go on 3 or 4 times in a row. Mt local garage messed with something
and fixed the...

I think I destroyed my clutch. by
[email protected]
I got a quick story about my 82 VW 1.7 gasser pickup. I was on my way
back from vacation on a 7 hour drive. I stop to use the restroom at a
gas station and upon trying to restart my truck, the 9 month old
starter refuses. (The solenoid has been getting very flakey. It will
often not throw when...

Temporary blowby? by
Jonny
I let the oil change interval go by too long. About a year, 6K miles.
Normally speaking the oil never gets black as can be, just dirty looking.
And, never lost a drop of oil.
Last oil change had maybe 1.5 quarts in the pan, plus the filter contents.
Oil was very black and thick. Lifters were...

Thanks

fixed: '81 Scirocco craps < 2800 rpm by
nutso fasst
The problem was old and brittle wires. All 3 wires that connect to the plug
that plugs into the distributor had cracked insulation where the wires
entered the rubber boot. The middle wire had corroded inside the insulation.
Cracks were not visually apparent, but when I removed the plug to...

Usefull life of a 1.8T by
Jack Lowry
I'm selling a '99 Passat wagon with a 1.8T and 5 speed.
It's got 211K miles on it and I'm just wondering what the useful life of
the 1.8T engine is provided the oil and timing belt are appropriately
maintained.
I'm selling it at what I think is an aggressive price of $1250 as it's
due for a...

My Passat 1.8T's engine finally terminated yesterday. I am now loooking

any of the other engine options?

Service Action by
Stan Dupp[_1_]
Got a letter today from VWoA about replacing the Crankcase Breather Hose
on my 02 Passat 1.8T. It says I have up to 100,000 miles or ten years
before the Service Action expires. My question is should I be concerned
about this and get it replaced or just wait till it's necessary. My
mechanic...
