The Old Golf by B Briggs
We've had our '90 Golf (GL 4Dr Wolfsburg 1.8 manual) for 11 years and 100,000 miles (It has 162,000). It runs great for its age (20!). I've taken care of it and used good gas. It's still fun to drive and has lots of power- especially in the middle band. Lately it's been burning oil- about a...

Diesel Misfueling by LM[_3_]
I saw an ad for the Fuel Sure device. It replaces your fuel cap and will not let you put gas in a diesel. I contacted them and they cannot ship to the USA. Does anybody know of a similar device sold here? http://www.stopdieselmisfuelling.co.uk/

98 Jetta GLX - Kombi Valve Replacement by HanKdKranK
I have a 98 Jetta GLX VR6 and it's throwing the 0413 code (not 100% sure about that code number). My mechanic says it is probably the kombi valve but it's expensive and a mother to replace. Anyone have experience with this diagnosis and/or changing the valve?

The Passat is passé ... by Bert Hyman
In the US anyway. We get some non-descript, yet-to-be-named, "New Midsize Sedan." And, it looks like I was among the last to know. Since it appears to be solely for the US/Canadian market, there probably won't be a wagon either. --

96 golf radiator replacement by Wiley Post
The radiator on my son's 96 golf with AT and AC is leaking. I've replaced radiators on older cars with less crowded engine compartments and not AT or AC. What is the level of difficulty in making this replacement? A VW mechanic with a pretty good reputation calculates this to be a $416 job...

A note from the "Oil Sludge Settlement Administrator" by Bert Hyman
Received a packet of information from the "Oil Sludge Settlement Administrator" including a notice of a proposed settlement of a class action lawsuit regarding the sludge problem affecting the 1.8T engines in some VWs and Audis. At first, I thought it was just another class action scam where...

90 Jetta, power loss when warm by IRv
I didn't notice this because my drive to work is only about 12 minutes. After about 20 minutes or so on the highway, it bucks or just looses power. So I was shifting back and forth between 4th and 5th, which would refresh the car and it would run fine for a minute or two. Then I discovered I...

Kids can be SO cute! by Aussie
First grade teacher explains to her class that she is an american. She asks her students to raise their hands if they were american too. Not really knowing why, but wanting to be like their teacher, their hands explode into the air like flashy fireworks. There is, however, one exemption. A girl...

98 Jetta GL vacuum line by IRv
Hi, 98 Jetta GL vacuum line, seems really cheap, thin hard plastic... anyway I've taped over a couple leaks but now I see it leaks where it connects to the brake booster, where there is a rubber "L" fitting at the end. The fitting itself is a little loose. Can that be "yanked" out and a new one...

replacing battery... by bob
... in a passat 2003. Is there ary problem about doing this oneself? Vague rumours about the cars electronics - in particular the software in the 'computer' - have put me off. As you will have guessed, I'm completely inept on these matters, so, any advice welcomed....

Transmission service scam? by Peter Kemp
My 2009 Tiguan has reached 40,000 miles and I called the dealer to find out how much the checkup was going to cost now that they weren't doing it for free. $550 -- holy s**t! But then he tells me that the transmissionneeds to have a $350 service done to it or the 60,000 mile power train...
