Buick Encore by [email protected]
The Buick Encore was new for 2013, and has been carried over largely unchanged since then. It's a subcompact crossover with some luxury cues that competes with vehicles like the Audi Q3, Mercedes GLA, MINI Countryman, and the BMW X1. Europeans have been buying Encores for the past year, but under a...

Evo pits BMW M3 against Porsche Macan in drag battle by [email protected]
If you want to move five passengers in very rapid fashion and you've got a $75,000 budget, two newly introduced four-door models immediately come to mind - both are the highest performing vehicles in their respective segments. But which is faster off the line, to the 60-mile-per-hour benchmark or...

car alarm problems by really real
My wife's three month old BMW 3281 sports touring had it's car alarm going off this morning. It would stop and start again. We tried locking/unlocking, and then driving it and stopping. Eventually it stopped. How hard is it to disconnect an alarm system, or at least just the noisy part of it?

very long cranking before engine starts by Yea Right[_2_]
Couple months ago my 99 E39 (528i) would not start. My friend/mechanic comcluded the problem to be either the fuel pump or the fuel pressure regulator. Being these components are oringal and nearly 16 years old, I decided to replace both, plus a new fuel filter. After the new fuel pump, fuel...

A BMW M4 Hot Lap Changed my Perspective on Street Car Speed by [email protected]
The BMW M4 has been a staple of automotive Internet controversy since it's reveal in Phoenix Austin Yellow. Lately that controversy has surrounded its name and its sound (following the demise of the legendary S65 V8), but after I experienced and filmed the ride above at this year's Pittsburgh...

When did BMW's get sports mode? by really real
I sat in my cousin's 2010 381 Sports Wagon today and was amazed to see that it doesn't have sports mode. When did sports mode start? I suppose her 381 drives more sportingly than my wife's new 381 Sports Wagon drives in comfort mode. I know the older steering feels more precise, so I wonder...

BMW to change model designations even further from actual displacement? by [email protected]
Once upon a time, you could look at the back of a trunk lid of a BMW and come up with a pretty fair idea of what sat under its hood. For example, a 320i was a 3 Series with a fuel-injected, 2.0-liter engine, a 328i was a 3 Series with a fuel-injected, 2.8-liter engine and a 328Ci was a two-door 3...

2014 kidney grill change by really real
Since buying a 2014 381i BMW Sports Touring, I've been looking a lot at the styles of the BMW's I see on the street. It seems that the kidney grill changed in 2014, slightly, but importantly. The front of the car slopes down slightly, making the kidney grills look more like nostrils, sniffing...

2014 BMW i8 by [email protected]
The 2014 BMW i8 is an oddity indeed in the world of sexy, six-figure sport coupes: It's meant to usher in "a new era of sustainable performance" for the category--though it can be hotly debated whether buyers of those cars really care about fuel efficiency or environmental concerns. Still, the i8's...

BMWs and iPod Classics by really real
When we test drove a BMW 381i Touring (wagon) I took along my iPod which stopped working after one song. The salesman said they were incomparable with BMWs and suggested I get a newer iPod like a Touch. This was very bad news as the iPod classics are much bigger than the new ones and I need...

AWD vs RWD -which handles better in good conditions? by really real
I live on a very steep hill, and for those few slushy days, I need AWD. I was very happy that BMW started making their xDrive system. I always assumed that with AWD, one pays a price as the car is heavier, and I assumed, the handling in good conditions wasn't as good. I'm confused about...
