Bumper Boyz? by
J. Dan Jones
It is always best to have YOUR bumper replated instead of an exchange,
here's why.
1. the bumper you get might have been wrapped around a tree then
straightened. Any guess on how hard it's going to be to align in your holes?
Maybe your bumper has been tweaked?
2. you might get one that has been...

I have been on the Google Image site many times looking at car images.
I feel that the site would be improved to a great degree by having the
pages edited so that incorrectly labeled images can be removed from the
pages. This would make the process of finding a particular image
faster. Right now...

Can't shut engine off on 1959 Impala by
Mr. DOS
I went out to start my 1959 Impala after winter storage, and the
battery was dead.
When putting a jumper cable on it, I noticed the Oil light was on even
when the ignition was in the "Off" or "Lock" positions. The car
started OK, but then when I pulled it out of the driveway, and turned
the...

Model A as a "daily" driver? by
[email protected]
Hi,
I have been seeing some nice Model A's for sale around where I live,
allegedly in excellent condition.
My question is would a model A with an original power plant and tranny
work out as a regular driver?
I don't drive to work, so "regular" means to the supermarket a couple
times a week, on...

1979 Cadillac Fleetwood: good idea for restoration? by
F. Baker
I am considering purchasing and restoring a 1979 Cadillac
Fleetwood with the 425 CI motor .
Some questions:
Was this a good year for the Fleetwood? I'm told by various sources
that the '79 Fleetwood is a good one.
The motor only puts out 195 HP. What would you do to tune it
for greater HP? I...

dwindling/growing number of cars? by
[email protected]
anyone ever hear of a statistic on the number of registered older,
antique, vintage cars?
i guess the question is something like?
in any given model year 300,000 new go-mobiles are registered
the next year less, 10 years later 100,000, 20 years 10,000 and so on
so the registered ones decline in...

Trying to ID Old Hubcap/Wreath & 3 Cats/Lions? by
weft2
I was wondering if anyone knew of any good websites for checking out
old hubcaps. I tried the hubcaps.com site, but it's limited and I
couldn't id the cap I have there. I found an old silver hubcap in a
relative's garage that has a roughly 2" outer rim of punched out and
solid cross- hatching, with...

Baffling Straight-8 Timing Problem by
[email protected]
Hi,
I'm working with a friend on his 1931 Marmon 88 straight-8 engine. He
pulled the fully functional engine about a year ago, had the whole
thing miked out, replaced all the parts that needed it etc. in prep
for a rebuild to fix leaks and generally restore the engine. The
engine is now all back...

74 Cutlass with starting problem by
Amanda Robin
I drive as my primary car a 1974 Olds Cutlass. I am only the second
owner and it has 66,000 miles on it. It had less than 40,000 on it when
I got it a few years ago. It is the envy of many young people in my
town!
Anyway, it has developed an intermittent starting problem. About 5
times now over 3...

Info wanted, importing vintage car into Canada by
Don
What is the procedure for buying an 45 yr. old car (has registration
but it's disassembled and in boxes) from the States. The American owner
is prepared to deliver it all to the border or across if necessary. If
he declares to Canada Customs that he's bringing it across for a
pre-arranged sale, is...

Rust-Oleum on old car? by
Bill Johnston
Hi,
I have a 1980 Buick with rust problems, principally from two sources:
It was in a rollover awhile back and got scraped up on the roof and
sides, resulting in rust in those places. And the shoddy paint is
flaking off on the sides, causing rust speckling. The rust is bubbling
up in a few places...

Ford inline six ID? by

I have just bought a Hotrod with a Ford inline six engine.
I have however not been able to identify what type/year/size engine it
is, so maybe someone on this group could help me?
The engine is overhead valve, has intake manifold cast into the cylinder
head on the passenger side, and the exhaust...

1962 Cadillac Eldorado speedometer cable trouble? by
Charles Scheffold
Hi all...
I'm working on a 1962 Eldorado and have a problem maybe someone here
could answer.
When I got the car, the speedometer cable was disconnected from the
cluster. I reconnected it and of course it doesn't work. So I pulled
the cable out and checked it while driving... not turning. I...

bumper rechrome get-ready steps - DIY preparation & dent filling... by

read somewhere silver solder was the ONLY acceptable 'filler' for
small dings prior to chroming and/or rechroming steel bumper
parts....what about brass, as in 'brazed in' filled and filed flat
small dings? would that work? (I got plenty of brazing rods, but very
little silver solder ;-)

Question about buying an old car by
WinterInAmerica
Hi there. I would be very interested in anyone's opinion on this
matter. I am looking to buy my first car (always lived in philly, used
public trans for years before this). I really would like my first car
to be a mid-60s era cadillac. My friends think this is a phenomenally
bad idea. Folks point...

anyone got any good recommends for a chrome plating service? I have

hundred made. I...
