'Smee Again. 73 Alfa Spider SPICA by
~Zaitsev
First, I want to thank all of you for your posts. And thanks, Ed for
the phone call.
Now that the TA fix is in. The next part is the convertible top. Two
problems:
1. The metal cage has been disassembled and the 'rivets' have been
cut. Do they make male/femal rivets that can be substituted...

73 Spider - SPICA by
~Zaitsev
The engine runs rich and back fires on deceleration. Someone said that
it had to be tuned to run rich so that it would start cold. I was
wondering if this might be the Thermostatic Actuator? Now for more
questions:
1. What does this actuator do?
2. Where the heck is it? I've looked at the engine...

Dual Weber Carb Problem with Choke by
~Zaitsev
I need to install a manual choke on these carburetors.
I ordered a book but it doesn't say anything about chokes. I need to
disconnect the existing choke and install the manual choke.
Or can I get a replacement for the automatic choke that doesn't seem
to function properly?
Thanks.

[tyres] Any experience with PZero ROSSO or Conti SC2 ? by
~DP~
I have to choose between the two tyres in object, to mount on a 156 1.8 ts
(205/55 r16), the price is similar, the Pirelli cost a little less because
they're not "fresh", they have been produced in late 2002.
Any experience , good or bad that can help me ?

159 Range - No Veloce Spec? by
~ MArky MArk ~
Hi all,
Apologies if this has already been debated and I've not noticed, but I was
wondering if there was likely to be a sportier specification available for
the 159? I've driven a couple of 159s, and was really impressed, although I
was surprised that there was no longer a 'Veloce' specification....

Diesel Cam Belt Failure by
Zathras
My garage is hinting that it might be a good idea (and I agree with
them) to change the belts at the 36,000 mile service instead of
waiting until the Alfa interval of 72,000 miles. I asked, and they
said that they've had plenty petrol cambelt failures before 72,000
miles but no diesel failures. Out...

You mean a Cinq doesn't sound like that normally?!! ;-)
I like that the compression has turned the dash to jelly..unless that
comes as standard from Fiat!

A Sad Day by
Zathras
I had genuinely hoped to have been able to put off this day forever,
but it wasn't to be. After 7 enjoyable and remarkably trouble free
years of driving the Alfa, the 8th year and, in particular, the last
six months have been a trial. It looked as though the trial would
never end so the best car I...

I Doubt It by
Zathras
What's the chances of the upcoming Alfa 1750 TBI (petrol turbo)
actually sounding like this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCUw8gzpTnw
None..I think. Sounds more like a tuned 6, possibly a 12, to me.
Traumatic brain injury - an excellent description for an Alfa?

I Don't Believe It! by
Zathras
Car failed to start yesterday afternoon. First proper fail to proceed
in 8 years. Not too shabby.
However, I suspect the immobiliser is playing up. It cranked fine (for
as long as I could be bothered holding the key!) and I could hear the
fuel lift pump so I'm suspecting the immobiliser is playing...

Falling Alfa UK Sales Figures by
Zathras
From Auto Express, the SMMT new car sales figures for January to
September 2006 compared to last year's - Fiat up 64% (Punto, I guess)
but Alfa down 23%! Ouch.
To put the Alfa percentages into an interestingly worrying context,
the official/unofficial dealer network of the defunct MG...

156 JTD Front Bumper Removal by
Zathras
Just spent all day on this - just to change the headlamp washer stop
valve!
Not mentioned in the 156 service manual for the JTD is that the three
upper retaining screws on the LHS are not as described - only the
petrol car is described. The one nearest the front is a badly corroded
nut and bolt...

156 Aircon Compressor Mode by
Zathras
On the single zone A/C in a 156, I seem to remember that you can
change what happens when you press the button that
activates/deactivates the compressor. IIRC, in one mode, the
'compressor switch' remembers it's setting when the ignition is turned
off and in the other, it turns the compressor on...
