'96 Jetta GL error code by
Kontemplatingmind
Just read this post....basically it means your O2 sensor (oxygen sensor) is bad before the cat, because your 1996 you are OBDII (which means 2 oxygen sensors, pre cat/after cat)
Its an easy fix, cost about $70-$100 for O2 sensor from autozone and takes about 5-10 mins to replace it.
check out...

'96 Jetta Problem by
Mike W
My son has been having problems with a 96 Jetta, 2.0L, 5M - check engine
light. Local garage scanned code, misfire on cyl #1. They changed the
usual electrical stuff: plugs, cap, rotor, wires. He took it out on the
road, and its doing the same thing. He says its usually happening...

'96 TD Golf Speedo drops to 0km/h while driving by
Peter Kovago
My Golf have been giving me this trouble for some time. While driving
the Speedo will drop to 0km/h.
The part that worries me is I hear a relay click and a slight drop in
power when this happens. I'm concerned that it may be doing harm to my
engine.
Any ideas on what this relay could...

'97 jetta electrical problems by
kristi83
I have a 97 Jetta GLS. Recently, while trying to use the cigarette
lighter for the first time I noticed a piece of paper shoved up in
there. My husband stuck his key in there trying to get it out, and
something arched and shocked him. Ever since then, the truck release
latch wont work, the...

'97 Jetta GLX Fact. Alarm questions by
[email protected]
I bought my car used and it didn't come w/ the owner's manual for the
vehicle. It came w/ a clifford keyless entry system that I was told was
factory. I would first of all like to know if anyone knows if this is
indeed true. If it is I would also like to know how the darn thing
works. It only has 3...

'97 Jetta TDI - how/whether to adjust the clutch by
Keith E. Loyd
Howdy,
MY '97 Jetta TDI is about to turn 140,000 (mostly highway) miles on its
original clutch. It has no problems except that it sometimes balks at going
into 1st gear from a stop. Here is what I know:
1. It goes easier if you slide into 2nd then 1st, or occasionally into 2nd,
then try 1st,...

'98 Golf hatch area water leak (fixed) car for sale by
Mister Resistor
FYI,
Thanks to some suggestions from the group, I tracked down the cause of my
leak. The gasket under the right side rear tail light assembly was the
culprit. Turns out the nuts holding the thing on weren't very tight either,
but I'm replacing left and right side gaskets as soon as they come in...

'98 Golf PCV valve by
bruce
The short rubber hose that connects between the PCV valve and the tube
leading down to the crank case had collapsed and split, leaving the
car stinking of oil, so I replaced it today. I was mostly focused on
replacing the hose, but looked inside the PCV valve full of yellow
colored goo, like what...

'98 golf rear hatch leak by
Mister Resistor
Getting rather wet in the hatch area of my car lately. I haven't really
tried tracking it down yet, but I'm hoping others may have had some
experience with this issue. No collision damage to the car. Rear glass is
original. The hatch gasket seems to be intact and in good shape. ...

'98 Jetta 2.0L tanny stuff by
Tim Wohlford
Well, this car (the one that stranded me in the blizzard last week) also has
a problem where it pops out of reverse. In addition, second gear is a bit
balky. I think this is why the last owner traded it in.
A quick Google showed me that these trannys are famous for these problems.
I hear it's...

My step daughter's '98 Jetta failed to start after a short trip of a
few blocks. I had her dad help troubleshoot and he just about started
an electrical fire. I bought a scanner and got "Link Error". I ran
the battery down putzing with it and put it on a charger. Came back a
couple days later...

'99 Jetta key remote by

My seventeen year-old daughter has a 1999 Jetta. Every time she tries
to unlock the car the alarm goes off. She's begun to leave the car
unlocked at night. (Not a good thing to do in St. Louis... the #1 crime
city in America.) I told her that she probably needs to replace the
remote control battery...

My seventeen year-old daughter (in another state) just called me and

tearing the axle boot."
Sounds expensive!
What needs to be done? Replace both front struts and the...

'99 Passat 1.8T Clutch Switch by
Don at The Travel Store
Can someone tell me where the clutch interlock switch for the ignition is
located.
It must need adjusting, because I have to almost put my foot through the
floor to be able to allow the ignition switch to start turning the engine
over.
Thanks
Don
