The pain continues by
R D S
156 2.0TS,2002,85k
Bought in May, has been in the garage in Aug for a piston & a camshaft and
again in Sept for a valve.
It has just been towed home again after the engine failed on the motorway,
engine light on, car juddering, clouds of smoke and all the oil gone (it was
topped up to full...

Emissions Fail.... argh! by
SteveH
Well, I'm a more than a tad ****ed off with that.
9 month old catalyst has been diagnosed as being at fault when the 156
went for it's MOT - which I find a little odd.
Can anyone interpret the results for me?
(Oil temp. was 93 degrees)

A Sad Day by
Zathras
I had genuinely hoped to have been able to put off this day forever,
but it wasn't to be. After 7 enjoyable and remarkably trouble free
years of driving the Alfa, the 8th year and, in particular, the last
six months have been a trial. It looked as though the trial would
never end so the best car I...

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly by
Dave Savage[_3_]
Chapter 1 - The Good
My 156 has gone through a very bad patch recently, but all is now well, and
I am moved to recommend to my fellow alfisti :
H.R. Owen of Parsons Green, S.W. London www.hrowen.co.uk
I took my 156 to them last week. It took them 5 minutes to diagnose the
problem - air flow...

Can Olive wait for the beep? by
GT[_14_]
2002 156 2.0JTS + oil levels:
We all know that Alfas use oil. When my oil starts to get low I can hear a
difference in the engine noise and in the past I have always topped up the
oil immediately. Only once in 8 years has the computer's oil low message
beeped at me. I stopped within 200 yards...

Locating parts and advice for an alfa spider-1974 by
TimM
Hi guys - I'm new to this forum. I was given an old Alpha Spider 1974 as
a wedding present - and its sitting in a garage in Italy without a
license plate and a mechanic saying I need to change some things to get
it to pass its Italian mot.
I was told that ironically it might be cheaper to find...

Just a quick hello to the 164 I saw in Kirkcaldy on Sunday. Didn't get a
chance to stare properly as you went the other way at the roundabout!

Valuation, please.... by
SteveH
Given that I'm notoriously tight when it comes to shelling out for
cars..... can the group give me a valuation on this:
1999S 156 1.8 TSpark
I *think* it's a Lusso (wood trim, cordroy seats, climate, sunroof)
Steel wheels (eurgh!)
101k miles, 1 owner, full history.
Cambelts done in March this...

Dunlop, Pirelli or Michelin? by
Barry Bingham
Time for a new set of rubber on my 156 2.0L. All 4 tyres (205/60/R15 V)
are hitting the wear marks. Up to now I've always used Michelin Pilot
Primacy, these being the original equipment on my year 2000 car. But now
I have the chance to try something else as the whole set need swapping.

another 156 cambelt thread... by
NC
All,
I am looking at buying a used 156 1,8. I am booked to see 2 private cars

60000. (£4.5k)
2) 1999(T) Veloce, 50000miles. Owner has done "nothing" to the car
outside of things like brake pads and wiper...

Alfa 147 1.6 Service costs by
Jonathan Day
Hi
I recently booked my 147 1.6 Lusso into Caledonia Preston (lancs) for its
36K service and need fell off my chair when they gave me the price £355
+VAT. Along with the brakes that will probably need doing I will likely face
a £500 bill.
This is just the thought of thing that will put me off...

Difficulty selecting reverse by
John
I sometimes (often) find it hard to get my '98 156 V6 into reverse.
Am I going to be on the end of a big bill for a new gearbox soon ?
Previous owner had reversing sensors (bleeps when you get too close)
fitted - is there any way this could have screwed anything up ?
thanks

156 start problems ?! by
Canonian
Hi,
Last week, for the 2nd time in a few months, my 156 didn't start at once.
The start motor was running, the distribution belt was running, no error
lights shown on display, but the engine didn't start.
I waited a few hours and tried again, but still with no result. Then I
decided to keep the...

Looking for reputable Afla garage nr Warrington by
redTed
As long as it's not f***ing Caledonia, I'm open to any recommendations.
Airbag warning light is on all the time and I can hear a ticking (valves?)
on start-up.
Caledonia already charged me an exorbitant amount of money to replace the
variator and I've sworn never to return :)

Spooky break in by
Yaddha
A couple of days ago, a filthy thief stole my nice JVC KD-LX10R
autoradio out of my 156 2.0 (02/2000). Lucky enough, there was no
scratch on the car, no holes underneath the door knob, no windows
smashed, nothing at all. The thief even removed the radio so neatly,
there were no marks on the...
