Question: CA seatbelt law by
goodnigh
My '71 Grande has a seat belt plus shoulder harness that
the driver needs to attach to the seat belt in a second action.
I always wear both belts but have been challenged by passengers
that the shoulder harness is "optional" according to the law.
"optional" equals "stupid" in my mind, but from a...

Carter carb by
goodnigh
What would cause the secondaries to stick part way open
on my Carter AFB 9637SA? When I complained about
the carb not working properly, my mechanic told me to quit
playing with the screws :) Turns out I was right. The secondary
valves and weights are stuck open about 25% of full.
The car runs...

Carb choice by
goodnigh
My '71 M-code needs a new carb.
Either a BG Demon, Edelbrock Thunder AVS or
Holley Street Avenger. Any advice?
They are all pretty much the same price.

Carb choice by
goodnigh
Have a '71 Mustang Grande' with 351C 4V.
Car needs a new carb. Toploader and 9" rear included.
My choices are a Holley Street Avenger, Edelbrock
Thunder AVS or BG Demon.
Any ideas on the best carb for a daily driver street machine?

What type BG Demon by
goodnigh
Want to get a BG Demon for my '71 M-code.
My mechanic tells me to get the mechanical
secondary instead of the vacuum job for a
quicker response. The car is a daily driver
although I jump on it now and then :)
Any thoughts on a mechanical vs. vacuum
secondary?
There is a $110 price difference. $50...

Carburetor linkage by
goodnigh
Should the carb's linkage be lubricated or just
cleaned with a spray cleaner. If lubed, what to use.
Had a hard time today kicking the car down from fast
idle after starting it. Nothing has changed with the carb.
It is a Carter AFB which tells you something about its age.
Need a BG Demon,...

License plate by
goodnigh
Got some plate covers for my '71 so people would quit
asking "nice car, what is it?" so we can get down to
some serious talk.
The holes on the covers are on top while the plates
are mounted with the two bottom holes. What gives?
There is a removable bracket in the front but none in
the rear.

Battery cables by
goodnigh
Just purchase a set of battery cables designed
for my '71 Grande. The new cables have only one
ground wire going from the battery to the engine block.
The old ground cable also has two other wires connecting
to the frame/chassis. Is an additional ground to the chassis
needed?

This Old Mustang by
goodnigh
Just returned from a camping trip to Yosemite.
Lots of twisting turning up and down mountain roads
at up to 7200 feet elevation.
Always have been told classic American muscle cars are fast,
in a straight line. True, but they just as fast on these roads.
My '71 Grande stuck to the road like a...

After owning several cars over the years, I have come to the
conclusion my '71 Grande M code with toploader and 9" posi

Reverse lockout rod by
goodnigh
The reverse lockout rod was introduced in '70.
What models carried this feature and when was it
discontinued?
This prevents the transmission from being shifted
out of reverse unless you insert and turn the ignition key.
Consequently, you can not remove the key unless you
put the car in reverse. ...

Question about horsepower by
goodnigh
The factory rating for my '71 Grande is from 285 to 300 HP
depending on where you look. My question is, does the 285 HP
rating mean the same today as it did in 1971.
Like the octane rating '71 vs. '06 the numbers have changed.
Octane 91 today means roughly 98-99 octane in '71.
Did the same thing...
