How can I tell transmission/starter type? by [email protected]
I recently acquired a dune buggy and was wondering how I can tell if the transmission, starter, and generator is a 6v or 12v? If anyone can tell me where to look (pictures would be very helpful) it would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Who has a 57-63 VW bug with sunroof? by hawkman56
Okay, does anyone on this group have a 57-63 VW bug with a sliding vinyl or canvas sunroof? If so, could you get the rough exterior width and length measurements of the canvas/vinyl top? I was told these were made by Golde and may be the same as the german sunroof Studebaker installed during...

GT or not? by caroline
Bought a scrapper beetle as a donor for my resto project last week. Bargain at ?50. But a few aspects of it have me scratching my head in confusion. Firstly its Tomato Red...was this a GT-only colour, or would it have been on other beetles in the same year too? If its a GT only colour, that...

Timing/idle and a 34pict3 by [email protected]
I have read everything I can find and still don't understand what my problem is. I have a 72 beetle with the I believe to be original motor, code AH. I have put on a new 34 pict3 carb and a new dual advance distributor. I marked top dead center on my pulley, ignoring the notches (It's a new stock...

How can you read a crankshaft bearing? by [email protected]
I know not to ask random questions, without searching the group first.. I've searched on here about crankshaft bearing sizes, and came up blank.. I can't find anything. I bought a 1500cc H case to do an experiment on. (let's not mention) .... I have a few cases, and have had my hands on a few...

Update - Tech: 72 SB, can't remove the 36mm rear wheel nuts! by Barnhart Pinball
Well, the Bug now has rear brakes. My friend from Caterpiller (took a suggestion) brought over his 1" drive ratchet with 3' bar and we knocked them loose. (Yay!) We found the adjusters frozen, both rear wheels had one adjuster in, one out. The shoes were trashed (and strangely enough, ground on...

I'm back, with more senseless ramble on engine building!! by [email protected]
Ok.. I recently purchased a scat boring tool to try to accomplish my task of making a 1914cc engine for my bug. I realize that all of my other plans, or backyard DIY boring scemes without tools, was just not going to work. I have practiced on some very old cases, using a drill press to power the...

Karmann Ghia doors do not align by [email protected]
Hi, I have a Karmann Ghia from 1970. My problem is that I can't get the door to align with the body. It points down so that I have an opening at the top of the door and the "pattern" of the door doesn't align as it is supposed to do with the body. I understand that my explanation isn't that good...

Tech: 72 SB, can't remove the 36mm rear wheel nuts! by Barnhart Pinball
Ok, I've been rebuilding the brakes on my daughter's 72 Super. I can't get the %@#% 36mm nuts off the rear spindles (so I can pull the rear drums)! I'm soaking them in penetrating oil now, but I have tried a 5' breaker bar and they will NOT budge. They do not look rusty, so am I missing a point...
