broken bleeder valve by news[_6_]
1970 Bug I have been fortunate to break several bleeder valves off that now need replacing, can someone tell me the size of the 'axle nut' so I can get the hub off? I have another pan which has disk brakes on all four-trouble is that the transaxle isn't the same nor is the front end. Would it...

Advice sought- 34PICT-3 replacement by [email protected]
It looks like I'll have to replace the original 34PICT-3 carb on my 1600DP '74 Beetle. It runs great, but there is significant fuel outleakage from the throttle shaft, no doubt due to worn bushings. Living in Canada, it's easiest for me to order a carb from California Import Parts in Vancouver...

How long were ACVW's designed to last? by P.O.W.
10 years. I know they used to award a badge if your engine made it to 100,000 km... 60,000 miles. and who can afford re-building from the pan up? -- when you believe the only tool you have is a hammer. problems tend to look like nails.

1970 parts Ghia in Philadelphia PA by johnpaul215
I bought it a while ago (on ebay) and did not realize the amount of rust.... and it's just not going to make it. It sucks, but i have to face the fact that it's just rotting away. I also don't have time right now to mess with it. Before i bought it, it appears to have spent a good 15+ years under a...

Type IV Exhaust by Jim Pineau
I have a '78 westy that needs a new exhaust. I do not use the bus in cold weather so I have no use for the "heating" system. Does anyone out there know of any alternatives to the heater boxes? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jim

1971 Engine Wont Start by Andrew
Hello - Dissapointed with this one.. I have a 1960 Bug, converted to 12v. All new wiring, and it has an AK 1600cc.. So probably around 1971. Runs great. Never had a problem in 2 years. I put it in reverse and parked it 3 days ago. Just got a license plate to take it down the road, since it sat...

Not alot of springy in my carb by [email protected]
I rebuilt my carb over the weekend. It's a Solex 30-PICT 3. It's running ... okay. But still a little chuggy - and when I am running high in gear (just before I would switch) it gurgles a little bit like it's hungry. One thing I noticed is that it's not quite as springy as before. That is,...

Starter Woes-again by Mel P.[_2_]
I replaced my starter (in my 77 Bug) with a rebuilt one. I bench tested it and it works. I connected all the wires (plus a ground) under the car and it works. I installed it in the car, and it clicks, doesn't turn over. I take it out and replaced the bushing. The bushing went in a little...

Testing the waters with my 1967 Bus by dull knife
No, I'm not going to test the waters by making a boat out of it. But I did think of cutting the front end off behind the doors and hanging it in my living room, or cutting it lengthwise about 2' deep and hanging it up, just open the doors and find a big screen television with multimedia...

Exhaust /muffler bolts - what should I use so I can get them off nexttime? by Bluedc
Having just spent several hours sawing the 3 bolts from between the 4 into 1 and twin quiet pack exhaust I was thinking there must be a better way to fix it back on. I tried all the usual methods to get them off but in the end sawing was the only option. I was a very awkward space - couldn't get a...

Alternator top pulley by [email protected][_1_]
Okay, have a weird one for you all. Subject car is a 1974 super beetle, stock Motorola alternator. The pulley(not original) on the alternator sits out too far. There are no shims behind the pulley adapter or between the adapter and the rear pulley plate. It's just out too far to give the belt a...

Strut Assembly Diagram by Bob[_42_]
Does anyone have an exploded view diagram of the front strut assembly for a 1973 Superbeetle? I am rebuilding mine, but it looks like the previous owner didn't put them back together properly. I have the VW Service manual (made by Bentley), but it only has a diagram of the assembled...

Are front suspensions interchangeable? by Mike West
Can you put a early type 1 bug torsion bar suspension on a 67 pan and vise versa? I thought they were interchangeable. Yeah I know they are different in the way they work but that the attachment points are the same aren't they? The folks at Airkeweled say they are not. They just released a new...
