Help! Timing (electrical?) problem in my 73 bug. by
[email protected]
Well, I've almost completed a mechanical overhaul of my 73 standard,
but have run into a major problem... I'm trying to run through the
standard static timing procedure, but the test light stays on
constantly, regardless of how I rotate the distributor (a 009, which
appeared to be working properly...

original 60 ragtop beetle by
[email protected][_1_]
One of my new customers has a 60 ragtop beetle that he bought new for
$1800 ($1700 cash and $100 trade in on a Rambler) mostly original,
has been repainted and someone stole his 36hp engine in 1965 so it had
a new 64 engine installed (Long story). Even the floor pans are
perfect,exept fot the...

Carb Spacer Questions by
scream[_2_]
Hi.
My generator packed up in my 71 semi auto 1600 so I replaced it with
an Alternator. Unfortunately the throttle levers didn't clear the
alternator so I have made a 25mm spacer for under the carb and now the
throttle levers just clear. It's taken me about 6 weeks between
getting the alternator in...

metal sunroof owners LOOK by
Cletus[_2_]
Hey, I found where the rear drain channels terminate!! they go all
the way down to a drain hole in the rear quarter panel, right behind
the door opening. You can see this by taking off the rear interior
panel. pull the drain hose out and blast it with air, then vacuum out
the area behind the...

How are cylinders numbered in a Vanagon ? by
Fred Mau
My '83 vanagon, since changing the distributor cap, rotor, and plug wires,
runs REALLY rough. I'm wondering if I didn't get a plug couple wires
crossed even though I was particularly careful about it.
The Bentley manual says the firing order is 1-4-3-2. Okay, but I can't find
where it says...

I have a 78 post-fuel injection super that I'm restoring. My question

that looks kinda weird...

electrical question by
Scott H[_2_]
I recently bought an old FM converter/cassette player to use in my '72
Super. If I hook up test leads directly to a battery it works fine. If I try
to use the test leads to test it in the car I cannot get it to ground and it
will not work. I've tried multiple times at existing ground points and...

azazel scratch
Fellow air-cooled drivers,
I need to replace the outer window scraper on the driver side door on my '74
Super Beetle. I can't drive the car in the rain until I do. I looked in my
Chilton and Bentley books but they don't cover the replacement of door
seals. Can anyone tell me what is involved...

License plate light by
bug '59
Hi all,
the light of my licenseplate is living it's own life.
Sometimes it won't go on when i turn on the light.
Is it the obvious 'clean all terminals' technic or is there something else
to check?
Is the fuse for it the same as my headlights?
It's for my '73
TIA,

1974 Bus won't idle by
[email protected]
OK, recently balanced the stock carbs and tuned up, ran like a champ.
Slowly though she started dying at idle, and now I can't get her to
idle at all. Runs OK if the gas pedal is held down, of course
checked the points, dwell seems OK. No obvious vacuum hoses loose.
Think it's possible the carbs...

Nasty looking intake manifold!! by
fenderjw
I am replacing the carb on the wife's 78 superbeetle vert and I
noticed that the interior of the intake manifold looks rather......
shall we say.. Unclean :(
It looks a little rusty (strange since it looks to be made of
aluminum???) and looks as if the paint on the interior is chipping
off.
Is...

Difference between 40 HP (1200cc) engine and later by
Mel P.
Can anyone tell me the differences of a 40 HP vs. later engines? I plan on
rebuilding one and have some parts form later engine which I maybe be able
to use.
I know the P&C's are smaller (77mm?), the heads would probably be different
and the muffler.
What about the flywheel and clutch?
Is it 6...
