power steering goes out in wet conditions by
[email protected]
1994 VW Jetta
Power steering goes out in wet conditions. I feel the steering wheel
get tough to turn (I can still manuver the car). The belt is not
slipping, fluid level is good. Is this just a matter of changing the
pump, or do I have a more serious problem?

2001 GTi - "clinking" sound over bumps by
1.8 Turbo
My GTi seems to produce a "clinking" sound when I drive over things such as
speed bumps, curbs, etc. I have a lowered the suspension using the Eibach
ProKit springs (1" drop or so) which I put on myself, 4 wheel alignment
subsequently done at the dealer. I've wondered what might be causing...

TDI in California? by
Joseph Oberlander
I vaguely remember that there were a few months or maybe a year or
two where they were allowing them to be sold in California, but
the local dealership is either brain-dead or playing dumb.
I'd like to get a Jetta TDI if I could, but I need to know what
years to search for. I just paid $2.59 a...

Transmission pan bolt torque 01 Jetta Automatic by
[email protected]
Hi,
I know I've stripped one hole on the tranny housing that holds the 4
bolts for the transmision pan. Looks like I can drill through to the
other side, use a longer bolt and nut.
Does anyone know the torque required to tighten these 4 bolts? I have
a Bentley and a Haynes and neither says. I'd...

VW Golf IV broken into by
Rochester
My car was just broken into in a hotel lot. They destroyed the driver's side
key-lock. I can actually unlock my car with my finger now! Is that OK? The
effort the thieves used seems to be very limited, and the alarm did not go
off either. I cannot go anywhere with the car like this now.
Anyone with...

A2 Steering Wheel by
Tony Bad
I was trying to swap wheels from my parked 86 Jetta into my 91 Jetta, but found
there is a different hub size (91 is larger).
Anyone know which year A2's (or even other years) will work easily without any
adapter?
The plastic on my 91's wheel seems to have gotten rigid, and on cold days, the
horn...

40K service on 09 TDI by
Wes[_3_]
I just had my service today. $842.61. Yes, that's right, over 800 dollars.
I've never felt more raped in my life. I'm so upset, and to add insult to
injury, I'm not sure they used the correct engine oil. I'm setting here
(just got back from the dealer) pondering what my plan of action should...

Door locks on Passat by
Tado
I recently purchased a 99 Passat GLS and have a quick question.
The door lock on the outside drivers door will unlock and lock
only the drivers door, but it will not arm/disarm the alarm and
will not lock/unlock all the other door locks. The passenger door
lock and trunk lock work as described in...

Golf ESP warning light - any known issues? by
[email protected]
Strange, but the brake light on our '03 Passat has been sticking also,
we only notice it after we have parked it for the evening. And the ESP
light has been coming on while driving, usually after we've been
driving for a 1/2 hour and doesn't go out until we turn off the
ignition.
It goes to the...

What's this tic-toc from behind the dash? by
Bert Hyman
I have an '02 Passat wagon, 1.8T and AT.
A few weeks ago I noticed a muted "tic-toc" sound coming from behind the
dash, repeating at an interval of about 5 seconds or so.
I noticed it first on driving down the alley and navigating the local
streets. After a few minutes and on the freeway, I'd...

Cabrio Rollbar Question by

Now that I've had my VW a few months, 1995 Cabrio, I can affirm I'm
still in love with it, and it's the best suited to me car I've ever
owned--new or used. Anyhow, now that the weather's dictated I travel
more with the top up than down, something got me curious:
The top of the rollbar has a thin...

"Anti-Rattle" Springs by
Scooter
Just installed new calipers, pads, rotors on my 90 Jetta GL. The pads
came with "anti-rattle" springs (little strips of brass with bent tabs
on them). I'm fairly new to VW's, and I've never seen this things
before. Seems simple enough, but where the heck to they go?!?
I'd like to intall them,...
