70 Steering Box help needed by vgonman
Guys, I have about 8 inches of l=play in my steering, and the steering box is the culprit. I visually watched from under the car. The steering coupler has been replaced, and the swing lever is NOTR moving up and down. I tried to adjust the box, but the gear is all the way in. Are these easy...

Quick-cure Epoxy by Bob Hoover
To All: There are times when you need to put something together fast, often while HOLDING the parts in positionby HAND, such as when you are making a jig or fixture. Many times the fixture is made of whatever wood you happened to have available.... 'good' scrape, if you know what I mean. But...

ADJUSTING VW VALVES -- AGAIN by Bob Hoover
I get a LOT of mail about adjusting the lash on Volkswagen valves, and much of that mail comes from folks who are FLYING behind a converted VW engine, making it a valid topic for this Newsgroup. The basic message is that for an in-service engine you DO NOT use the adjustment procedure shown in the...

Crank Pulley Question. Help Please! by [email protected]
Hi all! I was watching my '73 Beetle idle the other day. The crank pulley appeared to wobble a bit as if it were warped. Is this going to hurt anything? Thanks In Advance!

Faster engine warmup question. Help Please! by [email protected]
A few of the ac vw owners here that happen to be Puerto Rican, recommend removing the big curved rear engine tine so that the engine will heat up faster. By-the-way I'm not knocking Puerto Ricans. I was thinking of trying it for the cold weather. Then I would replace it in warm weather. My...

1961 Volkswagen Beetle/Type 1 by [email protected]
Was this a good year for the Beetle? What should people watch out for? How did Volkswagen squeeze out 4 more horse power out of the 1200cc from 1960 to 1961? What are the good points to this year Bug and what are the bad points? I'm thinking of buying one in original condition, mostly rust free.

Sofi Oksanen .... by Esko Rantanen

Wiper motor questions by Eddie
I picked up a 12v, four spade, wiper motor that I would like to put into my 12v '65. Whats the easiest way to bench test it, to make sure it works first of all? Will the motor bolt right into the assembly? I want to replace the original switch for a 2 speed switch. A '67 switch should work. What...

It drives by [email protected][_1_]
Granted, it sounded like 8 angry woodpeckers were taking up residence in the engine bay, but it started, the two warning lights went out, and I went for a brief drive. It seemed to run okay, and when I stood on the throttle all 49 and a half ponies sprang to life and I rocketed to 40 miles an hour...

Kandomiitteri by Miro Uusitalo
BANG! Maailmankaikkeuden historia./Neutriino. Neutriinot ovat pieniä ja hyvin kevyitä hiukkasia. Niitä syntyy ydinfuusiossa, jotka toimivat tähtien (esimerkiksi Auringon, perusydinvoimalan) energian lähteinä. Useiden vuosien ajan neutriinojen oletettiin olevan massattomia, mutta nykyään tiedetään...

Where are all of those electric Beetles? by dave AKA vwdoc1[_2_]
Just went to this site and saw that they sold quite a few Beetles that were converted to electric power. I would like to hear feedback from the owners. http://www.preparedness1.com/electric_vehicles.htm http://e-volks.com/electric_car_conversions.html Anyone here have one or seen one? Curious...

Could someone share their experiences with a Type 3 Fastback by [email protected]
I am interested in getting one. What was the last year for carburetor? What was the last year for the fancy override bumpers? Is the car easier to get into the drivers seat than the Beetle. Because the Beetle has the whole "A" pillar in the way of the legs when getting in. On the Type 3 is the...

Leaking rear axle seal on 65 bug by Super65
I've replaced twice now the rear seals on this thing and it keeps leaking. Any thought suggestions? Spacer appears a little pitted- but I cleaned it up best I could with 800 grit sandpaper. Tried to see if I could find a new one online- but can't seem to- oil keeps coming thru this seal...

I made a decision - going Electric by John J[_3_]
Got three ACVWs. Bodies are in great shape. The '72 has one very crapped out engine. Going electric on that one. I live in a small rural town. Should be just perfect. Oh, I'll include a gas heater. :) Anyone else?
