I have a 66 bug with a 1776 cc engine. I know it has some sort of reground cam, bigger jugs and pistons and headers. What I don't know is what gap to set my valves at. Any suggestions? Thanks, Mike

distributor problems by Mel P.
I replaced the crankshaft on my 67 engine. Put everything back together. The distributor drive shaft seems to be sitting too high, the rotor is being pushed up far enough the plastic part of it rubs against the cap. Can I push the shaft down? If not, do I need to pull it out to 'fix'...

1600 rebuild questions by js
Hey folks! I am rebuilding my 74 beetle 1600, and have 2 questions. 1, when I set the distributor up per the Wilson book, it appears that when the timing dots line up my pistons are in mid stroke on all 4 cylinders. Is this correct? The rotor points to the mark, but that would be more like MDC...

He's towing it home now. I'm sure he'll take good care of it. It had been sitting around too much and was running rough. That is, it was running rough until it realized I really was going to sell it. Now it starts right up and idles with no trouble. Oh well. I've been into this stuff too long...

'66 Beetle turn signal switch by Richard Couch
I’m having trouble with turn signal switches on my ’66 Beetle. I say “switches” because I’ve gone through three of them so far. The mounting screws come loose, and I’ve wound up stripping them in my attempts to tighten the mounting screw while maintaining the 1-2mm clearance called for in the...

Cylinder head cover gasket leak? by Leo
Hello again. More newbie questions! Yesterday I removed the left cylinder head cover to take a look and see what's involved with checking the valve clearances. The gasket there seems to have perished quite badly, and now that I have re-fitted it (I had no new spare to replace it with) there seems...
