NASCAR Question by tech27
As a fan of motorsports, I occasionally watch NASCAR, although I much prefer F1. I often make the analogy that F1 is to Nascar as chess is to checkers. (-; While the F1 cars seem to be deftly piloted around the course, NAS-cars look like the are being driven by wild teenagers just trying to...

1 Attachment(s) Side mirror leaking strange liquid "damaging"paint.... by Dugout Boy
My 00 M5 passenger door mirror starting leaking a fluid that ran down on the door, making it necessary to use a strong solvent solution to remove it. The mirror facing is now shot. What could have caused it? Have owned BMWs for years and nothing ever happened like this. David Hageman

SMG or not. by S.A.
Hey, so I'm in the market for a new car and have my sights set on the M3. I'm thinking about getting it with SMG II, and would like some experience/opionion on it. The main reason for the SMG would be since I am not familiar w/ driving a manual (but I should have the basics down by the weekend as...

New six cylinder engines have no dipstick by John Burns
OK, maybe I'm slow on the uptake. But I've only just realised the new sixes have no dipstick! I'm GUESSING they just have an idiot light or MID error message for low oil level. When that comes up I suppose you either guess how much oil to add or add a fixed amount (say a litre). What fun. I think...

If you are thinking of buying a BMW read this by bmoag
The longer I have my 06 5 series BMW the more I regret the purchase. I have owned Lexi, Infiniti, Corvettes, Cadillacs, Volvos, Saabs and I have never regretted a purchase as much as I do this one. It is fun to drive and admittedly handles better than any other sedan I can think of but the...

Serpentine Belt goes bad too soon. by Sam Nickaby
I've been having trouble with premature belt failure for a while and can't figure this out. The first belt that came with the car had a section of it chipped off. The belt caused a knocking sound on the pulleys and was removed. I'd checked the idler pulley and they spin smoothly. I'd installed a...

Manual vs. steptronic by kpb
I was thinking I'd get a manual, for the fun of shifting. Haven't driven one in years though. The BMW manual was very smooth, but the gear shifter is very "tight", little confusing to know which gear you're in. Plus the handbrake is in kind of a funny position to use on hill starts. Partly that...

Steptronic gearbox problem. by Mike G[_3_]
2000 reg BMW E46 330i 90k miles. Problem selecting reverse gear. Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't. All forward gears work as normal. Belongs to a friend. He tells me that he has to re-select reverse maybe once or twice before it engages. When it does, it works normally. When it doesn't, it...

should airbag inflate when seat belt is NOT worn? by [email protected]
I got different opinions here. Because they say airbag could seriously harm you when you are not wearing seatbelt, but how is it implemented nowadays?

Hey all, Well, I have been patiently searching for an 04-05 M3 in Carbon Black/ Cinnamon now for 5 months, with no luck. I'm looking for a fully loaded model (PP, CWP, Nav, HK, Xenons, 19's, etc); either SMG or 6MT. Anyone here have or know of one, please let me know. I know what I want, but I...

Premium or Regular Gas ? by Double Tap
This is being cross posted to alt.autos.bmw and alt.auto.mercedes because they get more readership than alt, autos.jaguar and the issue is the same for some models of them. I just picked up a 2003 X-Type with the 2.5 engine and only 3250 miles, yes that is correct, three thousand two hundred...

Odometer discrepancy by Vijay
Need some advice folks. I am in the UK. I have signed an agreement to part exchange my BMW for another BMW through a non-BMW gargage. I have since done a check through RAC and they report an odometer discrepancy. It seems a few times in the last 4 years, the car had its mileage changed back. I...
