BMW 3.0 liter diesel: any good? by GT
Please share your good and bad experiences about the 3.0 liter diesel as found in the 330 d or 530 d. I'm considering to buy a 330 xd built in 2001 with 100,000 kilometers and I don't want to do a mistake. Thanks for replying -- Best regards. Giovanni Tarantino Switzerland

BMW 'Goodwill' by Paul Aspinall
Hi I have put another post in the NG, asking about BMW warranties.... However, I am wondering what BMW's stance would be, if something went wrong with the engine / gearbox on my 745Li, if it were not under warranty. What would they do, with regards to 'Goodwill'?? I believe that an engine /...

Flood damage to car engines by bradthomas
Due to the recent downpours we have had there has been lots of flooding country wide. Unfortunately I drove my 6 month old BMW 335d Coupe into such a flood. Other cars were passing through it and once my turn came I atempted to go through the flood about 1foot high. My car stopped dead about 5m...

Just rolled over 100K miles...my take on BMW by [email protected]
Even though well maintained and only driven by me (and still looks great), I have to conclude the car has been.let's say, a bit of a POS....list of electrical ailments a mile long, total transmission failure at 86000 miles, and more electrical problems. By FAR, the most problematic pain in the ass...

Don't like the time between oil changes by grinder
I purchased a used Z4 with 10k miles. The next oil service is estimated to be in another 6k miles (this may be the first oil service). I don't like going that long between changes regardless of the better quality lubricants and filters used. I won't go much longer than 5k miles.

Orange county, speed limit reduced? by Trey
I was coming home tonight, and since the traffic was rather light, I was able to notice the new speed limit signs on the 22 east, from the 5 south to the 55 south. the speed limit on this stretch has been reduced from 65 to 55. How many other sections of SoCal freeway have been reduced? and why?...

Battery Charging by tech27
I'm storing my M5 for the winter, and as suggested I've getting a 2amp intelligent trickle charger to maintain the battery. It charges slowly, then shuts off, then charges again when the battery needs it. Supposed to be very good. My question is should I disconnect and/or take the battery out of...

"Al Qaeda" does not exist by Awake
I have had more than enough of this big lie. I suppose the **** hit the fan with the announced publishing of the reputed thoughts of "Al Qaeda", a fictionalized organization created by the CIA through their control of Western media. When the neo-CONS invaded Iraq they needed to show results and...

Pulling out the spare ti stupid, stupid... STUPID! by Saintor
I decided to rotate tires this morning, using the spare tire. The retaining mechanism is nothing short of STUPID. It has a vertical threaded stud and a flynut. What do you think happens when you pull out the spare tire, taking 2-3 moves because it is not exactly light? The stud can scratch the...

Stupid design decisions by dizzy
Sorry, but this needs to be said. No oil dip stick: Maybe this would be okay, if it were not for the fact that sensors seem to be BMW's weak spot. I know on my E46, the oil-level sensor is a bit flakey, as is the washer-fluid sensor. Pardon my language, but what the F$(% is one supposed to do if...

Nitrogen to fill tires? by Kevin Oberle
I was just at my friendly neighbourhood Costco and saw a sign advertising that they can fill your tires with nitrogen instead of ordinary air. This is something I've never heard of, though if the idea has trickled down to Costco it must have been around for a while. What are the benefits of using...

G35 vs. 330i sedans why did you choose one over the other? by GRL
I have a short list for manual sport sedans that is down to a new 2004 G35 (Premium, Sport, and spoiler packages) sedan or a nice late model 330i sedan (Premium, Sport Packages). They are basically equipped alike. Have driven both, like both, but am torn between the two because each has its...
