brake pads by Martin Jackson
50 years ago, my brother used his Pontiac GTO to test pads in NJ for a vendor. His recomendation to do one or two hard stops from top speed to outgas the volitiles has stood me in good stead. After that, the brakes work much better. It's been 5 years since new pads....Martin

Does anybody know of a website that goes through the specifics of the instrument cluster removal on a 1999 Mazda 626 ? I've gotta get in there because 2 of the dashboard illumination bulbs burned out and the very left side of the windshield heater is clogged.

Timing Belt Pics at 16 years and 128,000 miles by pws
I tore apart a 1.6 liter engine from a 1990 model with 128,000 miles and decided to just cut the timing belt off. The tensioners were going bad, the spring was rusty, and the water pump was badly gunked up, but this original 16 year old belt looks like it would have gone a lot longer. It is very...

91 3 window top by Wreckless Eric
Hello, I replaced my the original top on my Miata with a 3 window Robbins top about 7 years ago (the original had died). It's time to replace my current top, but I'm having trouble finding a 3 window top, which I prefer for the lack of blind spots and the top lies better with my rollbar. Does...

Again frozen door weatherstriip. by Zing
We've had some icy misty foggy nights here in NJ. My door weatherstripping on my 2002 Protege had some minor problems with being frozen to the door frame. In the fall I used a rag and sprayed it liberally with Permatex silicone and wiped several times the weatherstripping and door frame where it...

swap late model 1.8 into early Miata by Walt Barnes
I've got a complete late model doner car that got rear ended and totaled. I'd like to swap the 1.8 engine, 6 speed tranny, and computer into my 92. First, am I correct that using the mounts from the doner, the engine and tranny will just bolt in? Second, does anyone know how much trouble the...

Q: 60K Service by solamour
Hello, everyone. The owner's manual says that I need to replace the timing belt and get other major services done at 60K miles. What happens if I postpone it a little, say, 61K miles? Would my car break down in the middle of the road? I live in California, if that matters at all. __ sol

1.8 NB FL brake discs on 1.8 NB? by Alfa
Is it somehow possible to fit NBFL brake discs (10.9 in front and 11 in rear) to 2001 NB Miata (Standard 10 in front and 9.9 in rear) without changing brake calipers? Is there some kind of adapter for calipers to be able to fit bigger discs? Thanks!

Parking Brake by Brian
My 1996 Miata's parking brake does not work. I relpaced the cable running from the equalizer to the rear caliper on one side, thinking that was the problem. Then I tightened the cable at the brake lever. It still does not work. With the car jacked up by the rear differential, I took the...

And then there's irony... Ideas from symptoms? by Don Bruder
I can't help but sit here and laugh at myself and/or the irony involved. Yesterday, some posts to a thread on rec.autos.tech about how great, reliable, bulletproof, unkillable, etc, etc, etc, Mazda engines are. Today, mine came home form the paper route on a flatbed wrecker - No, the engine didn't...
