BMW 135i Winter Tire Question by [email protected]
I've just ordered a 135i but have some concerns about what to do during the winter with the 18" tires. Some have suggested getting another 4-whee 17"l set. That seems hard to believe. I live in the northern suburbs of Baltimore where there are several days of snow. My questions a 1) Do...

Which fluid is leaking?? by Class 1
I just saw an older BMW in the parking garage had leaked quite a large volume of amber/brownish fluid (a quart or so). Quite a mess. The question is this - what could this be? Engine oil? Power steering fluid? Transmission oil? Reason I'm asking is that I assume oil leaks are fairly rare...

Idling speed BMW 518 by Louis Carroll
I had a problem with very erratic idling speeds on my BMW 518. Idling speeds would surge up and down from about 1200 to 1600 for no apparent reason and the engine also had a tendency to cut out. With a little help from some people here and an expert we came to the conclusion that the Idle Control...

E39 -How would you handle this misdiagnosis? by Jeff[_53_]
I have a 99 528i with only 52,000 miles. Since I purchased it second hand, it's always shifted "hard." Last week I finally decided to take it to the local transmission shop. They called later in the day and told me the problem was a "rubber donut" and referenced the center bering. The cost...

petrol in diesel by Jo Ling
Fellow BMW owners, This didn't happen to my 525TDS, but it did happen to my Renault Scenic CDi ( a common rail diesel) so I thought I'd ask the experts anyway. Two weeks ago, I filled up the Scenic, virtually from "empty" (the orange light had been annoying me), at our local Tesco's. 51 litres...

engineoil grade for BMW diesel engines by Vijay
I have a BMW 335 diesel. It needs about a liter of engine oil. BMW is asking £16.00 for a liter. Is there an alternative I can buy from Halfords or elsewhere that will be equivalent to the BMW grade? I am in England. To repeat, it is for a diesel engine. TIA, Vijay

Angel eyes - fitting clips?? by Badger
Hi to all, just been given an angel eyes kit at Christmas. Looking through the contents there's no clips supplied to fit the rings into the headlights. If anyone has fitted a set of these, what did you use to actually locate the rings in the headlights? I could go and fabricate some sort of clips...

'87 325is (US) Passenger-Side Wiper Quit by Nobody
So the wife comes home last night with just the driver-side wiper working. I figure the rod has come loose beneath it. Sort of common enough. I go to look, and there's no panel to gain access beneath that wiper. There are two vent-like areas, one covering the driver's wiper, but the passenger...
