'84 GTI, Fuel Gauge Sender by
Mike
Which way does the float go on the swing arm? With the arm pointing to the
rear of the car, is the float ball on the driver or passenger side of the
car, (LHD)?
It will go in the empty tank either way. But, I think I remember, from
years ago, that it only swings freely if it's on the correct...

'84 GTI, Fuel Hoses by
Mike
I'm carefully preparing to start the car after it's been sitting for 14
years. Are the fuel lines/hoses likely to be ok, or at least good enough to
start the car. They have had only pre '93 gas in them. What has been your
experience with cars in continuous use? Have the hoses and braided...

'84 Rabbit by
Ears
Hello! I picked up an '84 Rabbit L for a fun/project/daily driver and
had a few questions:
Where do I find a VW badge for the front grill?
Why do the dashboard electronics (dash lights, odometer, clock, etc.)
work intermittently and how big a project is it to get in there and
fix those?
Also,...

'84 Rabbit Convertible FS by
Jim
Hello
I have too many vehicles and must part with one of them. I thought I
would go out to this list instead of eBAY. Mine is a pristine '84
Rabbit convertible Wolsburg edition. I am the 2nd owner. The car is the
nicest Rabbit I have ever seen and have owned 40 VWs including 8
Rabbits (most...

'84 Wolfsburg Rabbit conv. FS in Michigan by
Jim[_13_]
Hi
Michigan insurance rates make it necessary for me to unload one of my
VW's. I have a near mint condition 1984 Wolfsburg Rabbit covertible
with about 114,000 original miles. It is from Virginia and has no rust.
The color is white w/white interior. Looks and runs great. 5-speed
manual 4 cylinder...

'85 Jetta (Gas) fails NOx Emmissions inspection by
Fred Mau
Just took my '85 Jetta for the required Oregon emissions inspections - and
it failed the NOx test with a measurement of 4.78 g/mi which is over the
state limit of 3.70 g/mi.
My first thought was - a bad EGR valve. But it doesn't have an EGR valve.
My second thought was maybe I had the wrong spark...

'85 Jetta - is it JUST the clutch ? by
Biggie Frise
I'm looking at buying a '85 Jetta that's for sale down the street. 150,000
miles, engine runs good, body in excellent shape, for $1,000.
Only thing that concerns me is the clutch/tranny - it doesn't 'slip' but
it's difficult to get into gear, you have to be at almost a dead stop to
get it into...

'87 Jetta - Whatsa 'C' code engine? by
Rex B
I'm looking up a fuel pump for my GLI 16V CIS-E.
Catalog asks if it's a C-code engine.
How do I determine that?
I do not have the VIN handy.

'87 Jetta GLI 16V - progress by
Rex B
OK guys, here's where I'm at now with this (formerly) dead VW:
After going through everything from air cleaner to intake, repairing
what little I could find wrong, replacing all suspect vac hoses, and
fixing one vacuum leak, I got it where I could drive it - barely. It's
obviously running way...

'87 Scirocco 16V gas tank by
William J. Leary Jr.
What's the capacity of the '87 16V Scirocco gas tank? It was originally sold
in Massachusetts, if that makes a difference.
I remember looking it up somewhere and finding 12 gallons.
I just did it again, and found a replacement tank, which claims a capacity of
over 14 gallons.
I'm asking because...

'87 Scirocco 16V Oil pan by
Bill Leary
My son hit an object and smashed in the oil pan on my 1987 Scirocco 16V.
I'm assuming the oil pan from other years (86, 88, like that) of this car
will fit. But as I recall the block here is pretty common. Are there other
years and models I could get an oil pan off off in a bone yard and be...

'87 Scirocco 16V Oil warnings by
William J. Leary Jr.
I'm getting oil warnings on one of my '87 16V Scirocco's. The oil is full.
I've checked it on level ground and dead cold. The warnings usually come
around 2000 RPM, generally when in gear but occasionally when the car is just
rolling along with the clutch disengaged. This Scirocco has 117K miles...

'87 Scirocco 16V struts by
Bill Leary
Can anyone suggest a place to purchase the struts, not just the cartridges,
for a 1987 16V Scirocco?
The strut itself is actually broken.
My garage is coming up empty. Every place he looks either has only the
cartridges or, despite claiming to have struts in stock, it turns out they
really...

'87 Scirocco heater control problem by
William J. Leary Jr.
When the weather is mild, say 45 or above, moving the top lever to it's various
positions does what they're supposed to. Full right, defrost (and the AC kicks
in to de-humidify), second from right, floor, third from right, dash air, and
so on all the way to the left three AC settings.
When it's...

'87 Scirocco parts by
Bill Leary
I wrote here a few weeks back that my son had run my '87 Scirocco 16V over a
truck brake drum on the highway.
Mashed the hell out of the oil pan. They've taken that down and, amazingly,
there is no visible damage to the crank shaft. And my son reported that it
was running fine afterwards. He...

'89 Jetta 16V swap question (intake man.) by
Rick
Hi all;
I'm in the process of putting in a 2.0L 16V in place of the original 1.8L
16V. On the 2.0L intake, there is a large (3/8"-1/2") vacuum port on the
back of the throttle body.
On the 1.8L intake there is a small vac. port on the front of the t.b. going
into the fuel distributor (or...

'89 Jetta brake line Q... by
Darryl
I was just speaking with a dude at the parts counter at VW who gave up
the brake line lengths: 535, 1290, 2350 and 2440 mm for front ds, ps,
rear ds, ps respectively. He also told me 4.75 x 0.7 but didn't know
what it meant. 4.75 mm ID and 0.7 mm wall? Anyone know size of the
brake line...
