Troubling distributor wiring... by
Skip 66KG Lawson[_2_]
Hey guys, me again.
I have some questions about the distributor on my 66KG. Distributor is
original, part 113 xxx xxx. The short condenser wire that comes off the
"can" on the side of the dist. leading to the insert on the bottom of
the assembly seems to be stretched VERY tight. It comes off...

Blasting Cabinet for hobby use by
Max[_4_]
I've been looking for an inexpensive cabinet to use for small parts
(up to shroud sized stuff) for use in my barn/shop.
I already have this pressure blaster for outside use and my compressor
will keep up with it if I blast at about a 50% duty cycle. It really
helps to have the nozzle that you can...

Ignored 66 Karmen Ghia with binding brakes... by
Skip 66KG Lawson[_2_]
Hello everyone. I have been lurking about in this forum for a couple of
weeks now. Seems like a great bunch of guys here (with the exception of
some Mario character!). I recently "inherited" a 66 Karmann Ghia. As 66
anything goes, she's in great shape. The car belonged to my Grandmother.
She...

67 VW bus idle problem by
YouKnowWho@YouKnowWhere
Hi all !! It's been a long time. My bus has been sitting doing nothing for
almost 2 years. Took it to the AutoUpholsteryCompanyFromHell and after he
screwed around with it for about a year before finishing the most HORRIBLE
panel replacement you could ever imagine. He had it for so long...

Another Bone Headed... by
John Stafford[_3_]
So I am re-wrapping the fiberglass around the header (Merge 4:1) and the
oil lines that are suspended between two.
I got the wrap locally, but they had none of the stainless straps. The
straps in question are thin, impervious to heat as seen for four years
of use, and 'snippable' (can cut the...

Newbie engine question... by
Skip 66KG Lawson[_2_]
I have been seeing explanations that go something like "1300cc built to
1600cc".
What exactly do they do to the 1300 to make it a 1600? Is it just a
different crank for more throw? Is it just replaced pistons and
cylinders? School me!

Is a Ghia M.C. different than a beetle? by
one who waits
talkin' about a '69 Ghia, disc brakes up-front, drums rear.
Who has the best price on a new (pref. German) master cylinder?
and I saw in Hot Vw's a m.c. for 4 wheel disc brakes, would that do?
TIA

Car Wont Start after two years. by
Camus
Hi guys, I had a VW 74 super beetle with a bad starter sitting in the
garage for a couple of years, I recently replaced the starter,
battery, changed the engine oil, break oil and added some gas to it. I
tried to start it but it seems fuel isn't reaching the carburetor ,
the gas pump was working...

Testing Fuel Injectors by
No Name
Can I put 12 V DC across the solenoid to see if it works or does it need the
voltage dropped? I see that there is a resistor in series when I look in the
Chiltons manual.

Snobs. by
georgewk
some VW fanatics ( well, most ) turn their noses up at my beater Ghia
Cab., because
it is not all" original". and I run the 6v clock on 12volts.
Meanwhile, lots of people who have limited exposure to the brand, think
what a cool ride I have. I'll let them feed my ego.
And anytime I have put a...

I'm not sure if John or Steve still read this forum but in case they or

can get them in person or by mail. My question is how do I go about

Slow onset hesitation at speed by
C7eca
Okay. 1969 bone, stock, standard beetle would start up fine, run
well, accelerate well, even up hills. After 10 or so miles, a sort of
hesitation would creep in that felt like onset fuel starvation.
Checked fuel filter, found rust. Replaced filter. Checked fuel, tank-
found rust. Replaced fuel...

Distributor Rotor Continued by
John Stafford[_3_]
In <http://www.digoliardi.net/rotor2.jpg>, I think I might grind down
that ramp that keeps the rotor stood-off. When seated, the rotor sits
several millimeters higher than it should. What do you think? Go for it?
I don't understand how the heck this kind of rotor is even sold if it
doesn't fit...

This rotor is over an electronic ignition. Don't know what kind yet. It
is a rev-limiter type rotor.

Still possible to rent VW in Mexico/Cancun? by
Keith
Hey everyone, does anyone know of a car rental place in cancun (and
preferably near the airport) that would still rent the original
beetle? I'm going next week and would love to cruise around in one
since my 64 resto is still in pieces! Thanks for any help.

Hard to start when hot? by
Bluedc
Hi,
I have a 69 Ghia (1600 twin port) which starts perfectly when cold
even when it hasn't been started for a few weeks. However it doesn't
start very well when I the engine is hot. If I am on a long motorway
drive and stop for 10-20 minutes the engine needs to turn over a lot
on the starter motor...
