Proper alternator mounting tin orientation? by
me
Hi all,
I am replacing my alternator. After attaching the new one to the
mounting tin(the circular part with 4 ears for attaching screws, between the
alternator and the fan) and preparing to bolt it to the doghouse, I noticed
a vent along one edge. Obviously I did not notice this when I...

Quick Fix by
Dennis[_4_]
Today my son and I wired a ford selnoid as his vw was having a hard
time starting. Very simple and cheap, under $10.00 and about 15 min
work...I can't believe just how well this works. I've seen others do
this before but never tried it myself. I know many object to
shortcuts but it works for me....

Fuel Line Question by
[email protected]
I have a 1969 Beetle Chassis with a Fiberglass Kit Car on top. The kit
is a CMC 1929 Mercedes. Last night I found a fuel leak in the fuel
line exiting the tube and going to the engine. I was a piece of 1/4"
copper tubing with a pinched section and it was dripping fuel. I
removed the tubing and...

Oil Everywhere! by
ilaab
On my last post a few weeks ago, I was thinking of getting this pretty nice
'73 Karmann-Ghia but I decided against it and got a '67 Beetle. It was
rebuilt about 8,000 miles ago and it now has a 1600 from the early 70's.
Well, I was about to load up the family for an evening drive when I saw oil...

Dennis[_4_]
Ok guys, I need some input and help. I just started my puma after it
has been in storage for almost 7 months. The clutch is stuck. I can
shift gears with the engine off but not while it is running. I can
start it in gear but it is in gear and moving and cannot be shifted
out of that gear (I've...

hot engines by
Dennis[_4_]
You guys who know me, know what I think of thermostats and flaps. I
won't start a war or offend the " flap Gods" I hope but yesterday a
good friend of mine stopped in with a very hot 68 van. He had checked
timing etc. I put my hand to the back of the shroud and sure enough
the old rod was stuck...

Looking for engine part(s) by
[email protected]
I'm trying to rebuild a 1776 cc type I engine, and I need one or two
piston and cylinder sets to match CB Performance Part #1052 (90.5 X 69
mm), and I'm trying NOT to have to buy a full set of four.
Does anybody know where I can buy one or two NEW CB #1052 P&C sets?
Alternatively, if somebody...

Cracks on my Beetle's IRS CV Boots by
[email protected]
Hello Again.
I just came back from Auto Zone auto parts.
The parts man there said I should try applying Permatex black rtv
sealant to the cracks in my cv boots and let them dry 24 hours.
He said:
1) clean the cv boots with rubbing alcohol and paper towels
2) apply the black rtv sealant to the...

A Simpler Bowden Tube adjust. by
troll
I cut washer(s) into a "C" shape and just slip them onto the tube
just before the bracket, to get that "sag".
Try it ! you'll like it.

Is it possible for the ignition coil to overheat? I was driving the other
