Interstate battery problem - help please by
Jim Ed
Here is the situation.
In the Summer of 2009 we installed an Interstate battery that we got
from Sam's.
In warm or above freezing weather it cranks just fine.
When it is below freezing, sometime the starter makes a little grrr
sound or nothing at all.
On another vehicle with an Interstate...

Passing Emissions by
Mel P.[_2_]
I've heard old timers always say to change the oil before. I've also heard
that air filters are removed to help pass.
Can anyone tell me if it makes a difference and why?

Correct Timing For a SVDA dizzy & 34PICT3 Carb? by
Jim Ed
I just make short trips in my 1973 VW Beetle.
It already has flaps and the thermostat.
I thought it would get the heater working sooner if I set the timing
to 5 degrees ATDC.
What is the correct timing for a SVDA vac/advance distributor and a
34PICT carb?
I was always told that 7.5 degrees BTDC...

4 wire alternator annoyances by
[email protected][_1_]
The first alternator I had came with the car. Big sticker on the top
said "Re manufactured by Bosch" or something similar. The label wore
off over time, but the alternator never quit charging. Instead, the
threaded part of the shaft where the pulley attaches decided to
divorce itself from the rest...

brake fluid up-date by
VFW
while bleeding .. some rather yucky stuff came out. almost milky, must
be moisture?
on another wheel (R.R.) seems like the bled fluid just did not come out
with the same force as the L.R.
should I just go ahead and change the rubber line?
otherwise , things are working out.
Why don't these cars...

even sitting for a few dayz.
the bugger is the body has a single reservoir while the m.c. is dual
circuit.. I have a dual reservoir, I'll change it to isolate the problem.
Yes, I've looked at the long line that runs to the back.
I wish I could see some evidence on the garage floor.

Diz rebuild by
Cletus
Guys,
I need to get rid of some excessive shaft play in this 034 that I
picked up for cheap. I did this to one a couple years ago and it works just
fine, just added new gaskets and spacers, straight forward job. Well my old
brain is failing me but for the life of me I can't get the point...

Replacing my ancient Die Hard battery by
Michael Cecil
I got one I think is made by Johnson Controls from Autozone branded as a
Duralast. Hopefully this one lasts a long time. I wasn't entirely sure
the old battery was defective but I couldn't find a purchase date in my
log book and I was tired of charging it up. Of course, it will help if...

Shopping for a Westy...Ugh by
Trey
So with tax returns this year, the family and I plan on getty a Westy. I
have around 5k to spend. Maybe 6 if I stretch it. I would like a 74 and
later, prefer a 78-79. As I'm finding out, you can't get a decent looking
Westy for that price. All I find on thesamba are rusty and abused. When...

Trying to replace cables on sons project car.68 bug. Could not get the

Essential tools for an engine rebuild... by
DaveWV
Hello guys, I've been away from this group for quite some time for
various reasons but I won't bore you with the details. I'm glad I
finally found my way back.
I have a couple engines that need rebuilt and my 20yo son has agreed
to turn the wrenches. I can't even pick up a wrench. We have the...

Bailey Channel by
John[_28_]
I replaced the bailey channel in one of my windows a few years back.
Probably Brazilian or some such as its faded, fallen to bits, generally worn
out. In fact in worse condition than the 40 year old original German ones
in opposite window. There are a few auto rubber specialists around who sell...
