1990 Miata by
[email protected]
I am thinking about purchasing 1990 Mazda Miata with 204k miles. I
have always like the Miatas and I thought this would be a cheap way to
get one. The car looks great and it is the original owner. Can anyone
give me any advice?

Stereo Installation in a 1990 "A" by
Tom
I plan to rip out the stock AM/FM/Cassette and factory door speakers
and replace it all with an Alpine head unit (already have), new 6 1/2"
door speakers and new headrest speakers. While I have done a number of
car stereo installations over the years, I have a few questions before
I jump in.

Daytime Running Lights in 2006 MX-5 by
John McGaw
I haven't bought my shop manual and wiring diagrams yet (and at the
price my dealer quoted I may not but that is a different problem). Was
wondering if anyone knows how to enable DTR in the new MX-5. I suspect
that Mazda didn't go to the trouble to differentiate the Canadian
vehicles for this...

John Smith
Does anyone know of a kit that contains the necessities for swapping a 1.8L
into an older (M1?) Miata?
I have a '91, and know that sometime soon I may need a new engine, and when
that happens, I wannt go to a
non OBDII 1.8L.
Thanks guys!

Oil levels:just how far over the F is too much? by
Red Zircon
I tried looking in the archives for precise information. I'm unsure if
I should add to an old discussion or start a new one: this is one of
the few times I've participated in a group discussion. (Please let me
know if I have it wrong.)
Question:
We have bought a 2002 Miata, (called MX5 in...

Changing the bulb in the tail light by
Thomas Misek
I had a brake light bulb burn out in my 2001 Miata. I have been trying to remove the tail light assembly without success. I removed the trunk inside trim and unbolted the two 10mm nuts and screw at the top of the assembly and the rubber wire gasket. The assembly is loose but will not come out. ...

closing up gap between bumper and fender by
frank
I've got uneven spacing between the front bumper and fenders, with the
passenger side wider in the front and not snug below the headlight
assembly on my 2002.
My assumption, and I'm guessing since I haven't got a shop manual, based
upon gazing at what can be seen under the hood is that removing...

Tranny & Rear Axle Fluid Change by
Tom
I am the proud owner of a white, very cherry 1990 MIata with 49,000
miles. It's a 5-speed. I was reading the manual last night, and it
recommends changing the tranny and rear axle fluid at 6 yrs/ 60K. I am
not sure whether this has ever been done or not (the records I have
don't indicate it has...

Radiator blew out by
Frank Berger
Last night on the way home from work. Had to be towed to dealer. A little
over $400 parts and labor. Leaked at the top, he said. Is this unusual?
First time my '96 left me stranded. Of course, it's never been 10 years old
before, either.

65mph HARD shake -- UPDATE by
[email protected]
Okay, some of you may remember about a month ago I wrote about a hard,
almost violent, shake that was occurring in my '99 Miata from around 59
mph on up through 75 and even higher it many cases. Had new tires,
freshly balanced, and just had alignment done. Most suggested it could
be a bent...

removing half-shafts from torsen rear end by
pws
I am taking the half-shafts off of my torsen differential and want to be
certain that I am doing it correctly. Here is a picture of the assembly,
it looks like I need to take the clips off, and I don't see a way to do
that without damaging them, so I am assuming that you replace them.
Do the two...

Advice on Purchasing a Miata Please by
Tom
I'm looking for am early model (1990-1995) Miata as a 3rd/summer car.
I'd appreciate any advice on years to avoid, years to look for, things
to look for as I'm looking at and test driving the car, etc. What are
the commonly replaced items that I should find out whether they've been
fixed/replaced?...

Radio problems by
Christian Smith
So, just picked up a 1999 Miata. Run great and is in very nice shape,
except the radio sounds like total crap.
Radio stations which should be crystal clear (for example, NPR station
being broadcast 5 miles away) are garbled (though scanner picks them out
just fine, so I don't think it is a...

Owners manual by
Healeyman
I recently bought a 2000 Miata, 5-speed.
Whoever cleaned the car out REALLY cleaned it out, so much so that I didn't
get an owners manual.
Can anybody tell me HOW MUCH of WHAT WEIGHT fluid is the full level of the
5-speed transmission.
Thanks in advance,

Faded Paint by
hmmm
Hi all
I've got a '95 red Miata and the plastic nose/bumper has been faded/oxidized for some time now, and the car's performance seems to have slowed down the more it faded. Now it seems my Red Miata is being out-performed by the normally slower White Miatas. Bottom line...not good for my ego...

Keep or sell cheap? by
Tina Marie
I have a '97 Miata, with 93K miles on it.
About 2 months ago, I started getting "random misfire" codes on the
check engine light. Been there before, so I replaced the plugs and wires.
2 days later, the code came back. I took it to the local mechanic,
who chewed me out for not using NGK wires,...

Engine shuts off when coming to a stop by
Wileyman
My '90 Miata, which I have owned for one month has 91,500 miles on it.
It runs great except when it's warmed up and I am coming to a stop, the
engine shuts off. I can restart it and it starts and runs fine, tach
steady at about 750 rpm, then I take off and when coming to the next
stop, it will...
